Sugar doesn't evaporate period, and like someone else said, alcohol and water do. Consistency compared to a new bottle would help determine if it is watered down to as high sugar content would likely have a slower flow rate. I have a hard time believing that the coloring would breakdown over time, but I suppose it's plausible

I have a hard time believing that one's friends would water down a bottle.

I've had a bottle of Sourpuss in my liquor cabinet for the better part of 8 years and other than a gummy cap and about 2 oz missing, it looks like new. I would have to think you got a bad batch.

Maybe it was finished and someone rinsed the bottle out? Then someone else didn't realize it and put the bottle back to the cabinet?
