Reviving an old thread but one that is probably timely as the 2013 running season is upon us.
I'll pump the Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon, set for 7:30 a.m., June 15, 2013.
All information and registration links are at
www.millarvillehalfmarathon.com A gallery and Go-Pro video of the course is there too.
This is a beautiful, rare, 21.1 km, point-to-point run from Oilfields Arena in Black Diamond, onto the Turner Valley Golf Course Road and down into Turner Valley itself, then the urban pathway back towards Black Diamond before taking Racetrack Road to finish at the Millarville Farmers' Market as it opens for its 31st season.
Registration totals have already passed 2012 levels. Anticipating about 500-600 in the second year of this race.
If you're an elite runner, there is about $2,300 in cash prizes available in an expanded prize pool. Course records are 1:14 for men and 1:21 for women. We anticipate a fast field again this year.
There is a two-person relay this year.
Unique, hand-made, clay-fired finishers medal fashioned by a Farmers' Market vendor. Big and heavy. Looks like a cookie.
Great reviews of the course last year . . . . "beautiful, strategic, scenic and challenging" were all used to describe it.
Two race package pickup days in Calgary, one downtown, one in the south. And then one at Millarville Racetrack and limited pickup at the start line.
Shuttle bus service between Millarville Racetrack pre and post race.
The race has three charity affililiations in 2013, Rowan House, the emergency women's shelter in High River, Priddis Fire Department and Sheep River Health Trust in Okotoks. They're all looking for runners/walkers to fundraise for them. Net proceeds from the event itself benefit the non-profit Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society.
Great morning for running, shopping, food and music!!!
Love to see some Calgary Puckers out.
