Yes, it is a money pit. Each figure is about $10, and the new giant figures are $15. Still, my 9 year old plays it all the time, and his has been playing it all year since last Xmas. You only really need 4-5 figures to do all the quests, but the game is very replayable with extra figures.

The Giant sequel is out now, and old figures can advance to level 15 in the new game.

Not a fan myself but this seems like a good deal if you are into Skylanders; especially if a 3DS XL was on the list for somebody else/yourself?
