Related in a way.

Unfortunately, there are environmental and other radical groups that would seek to block this opportunity to diversify our trade. Their goal is to stop any major project no matter what the cost to Canadian families in lost jobs and economic growth. No forestry. No mining. No oil. No gas. No more hydro-electric dams.

For example, the Mackenzie Valley Gas Pipeline review took more than nine years to complete. In comparison, the western expansion of the nation-building Canadian Pacific Railway under Sir John A. Macdonald took four years. Under our current system, building a temporary ice arena on a frozen pond in Banff required the approval of the federal government. This delayed a decision by two months. Two valuable months to assess something that thousands of Canadians have been doing for over a century.

I would correct one thing. Millions of Canadians have been playing hockey for over a century

Well, here's the rub. If they came out and said
"I don't want the national parks developed any more than they are. It should remain as natural as possible"
That's an opinion and position I understand (although I don't agree with). But they are deliberately misleading people with their complete misunderstanding of the issue.

The funny thing is that this clown has gotten 100,000 people to "sign" his petition... 99,000 of which are completely ignorant of the real story Im sure.
Mind you, if the petition was titled more accurately- "Dont allow Brewster Canada to put up what a few tree hugging hippies think is an eyesore", they probably would have only gotten 200 people to sign.
Ps. That glacier walk is pretty friggin cool.

You'll see some pretty hilarious results if you twitter search "save jasper"
"I love Jasper. Don't let it be sold to an American company. Support the park and tell Harper NO DEAL!!!"
Ahahahahahahahahahaha etc etc

I'm usually against such projects just because I don't think these sorts of things should be built in the parks, but trying (successfully, sadly) to use Harper hate in order to push their own agenda have pretty much made me reverse my stance on this one. And I'm not even a fan of the Harper government.

Honestly I'm not a fan of harper, well let me rephrase that, I didn't & won't vote for him.
But having said that he's not nearly as evil as his opponents like to paint him. A fun game is skimming user comments on CBC.ca to see how often Harper is blamed for something. The connections people make are just mind bottling.

Its pretty much the same thought process as the one greedy aboriginal corporate slaves built over the Grand Canyon and which has been a huge, money-grubbing success.

The Saudis own Fairmont and Raffles hotels. That huge clocktower hotel built in Mecca is actually a Fairmont hotel.

That's not exactly exclusive to Harper and CBC readers, though. People in positions of power -- from all sides of the political spectrum -- are wrongly blamed for everything regardless or whether they were at fault or were in a position to do anything about the issue.

Funny enough, this was designed by Jeremy Sturgess. A local Calgary architect who is one of the only local guys I thought could pull off a nice design for the Peace bridge also.
I also think it is pretty cool and would definitely be a reason for me to go up and visit the icefields.
