^^ i don't think it's that - first 3 digits of my neighbour's number don't have a 9 or a 1

the last 4 digits are 1759.... not really close to 911

This reminds me of a story from "This American Life" about the guy whose family wrote nasty stuff in the dust on the back of their van.

Quote:
A few years' back, John and his wife were driving back from a vacation in Concan, Texas. They had five kids in this van that they had rented for the trip, three of their own kids and then a couple of the neighbor's kids. They stopped at a taqueria in San Antonio for lunch, and then got back on the road. And John was feeling pretty good about things. All the kids seemed happy, nobody had gotten hurt on the vacation, lunch was really cheap, though he noticed he was getting some weird looks from other cars on the road. And then, outside Sealy, coming into the home stretch of the drive, he sees this Texas Highway Patrol car.

We see this sometimes (phantom 911 calls) it usually is a ####ty cordless phone with a dead battery.... What happens is the cordless phone tries to tell the base station it wants dial tone... then doesnt... then does and the switch thinks its pulse dialling 9-1-1.... Id replace the batteries in the cordless phone or replace them all together.

I had the same thing happen to me about 2wks ago. I was going about my day when my cell rang. When I answered it, it was a 911 dispatcher telling I had just called them and what was my emergency. It took me a few minutes to convince him that I was okay and that I have no idea how I called them. I apologized profusely, but I still have no idea how that happened. Very strange since my phone is locked every time it's not in use.
