when you come on the baord and state that you're looking for a sales job, you need to know that we need more information so we don't waste our time.
I'm for example a Sales and Marketing Manager for a technology solutions company, so I can tell you without question that sales are not sales.
Did you sell commodity based products in the past, or were you in more of a consultative sales role? What kind of products or technology did you sell because the approach is different in each way.
For example I've been in sales for over 20 years, I started in retail electronics, went to whole sale distribution of computers and computer parts, went on to sell consultative HR services and solutions, and then went into high end software solutions, and I can tell you without hesitation that selling isn't selling.
There's a huge difference between relationship selling and selling into a trusted advisor role for a fortune 1000 or 500 organization.
There are different techniques for asking for someones business.
Can you build a ROI model based around a replacement strategy for a service or product.
Its far more then what you talk about.
Did you do net new sales, or existing client sales. Are you a hunter or a farmer. I'm not going to reach out to you because you stated on a board that you're looking for a sales job, I need to know more. What's your experience level, did you constantly hit quota? Did you deal in the $1000's, 10's of thousands or hundreds or thousands or million dollar revenue levels. Did you deal with major accounts.
Now Pylon on the other hand works for a car dealership, and I can tell you that the sales cycle there is compleeeeetely different from my sales cycle and experience requirements.
Frankly you're opening post was poorly executed for someone looking for a sales job, I'm looking at your original post and it doesn't sell me on contacting you (and I am looking at adding to my team early next year) or even referring you into my network. Your response then totally sunk you.
Not to be a jerk, but if your going to put yourself out there for a sales job, then sell me on a reason to contact you. I know its quiet right now for me because its Christmas, but your style doesn't motivate me to contact you.
You basically had a chance here to sell yourself into someone contacting you based on a anonymous post.

For someone who claims to have worked in sales and marketing for the social media angle, you seem to have missed the point that forums are one of the main forms of social media and your prior attitude could have already cost you a job or negatively affected your reputation. Don't ever underestimate any platform you are sourcing as you never know who is on the other end on the internet. Now you are belittling the forum. CP is very well connected and browsed by a lot of corporate and industry types in Calgary.
If you really are in sales and marketing - everything you ever do should be considered an interview, if not for a job, then for the networking and connections.

I wasn't belittling this forum. I was only stating that there is generally a relaxed atmosphere in these forums. That most people here are friendly and a lot of joking takes place. IE. the blow job comment.
I'm well aware that in sales everything you do is about networking and connections, and you want to come across as someone people want to work with.
Again, I am appriciative of advice, but I don't need to be belittled by you.
I certainly wasn't underestimating this platform, that's why I posted here. I may have made a mistake in my orginal post and response, but I understand where that mistake came and won't make it again.

He posted here in the open, and he was openly questioned here, simple as that.
If your going to post like the original post there was no reason to PM, he got some constructive criticism especially based on the sales is sales comment.
