See my buddy thinks of "next weekend" as "THE next weekend". Do I think that explains A.

I am saying B.
But I also clarify with people just in case they have a different meaning of Next Weekend.
When I say next weekend, I tend to add "So not this coming weekend, but the one after."

Of coarse it's B. But the question is loaded.
A weekend is like clubbing and cooking a seal. You kill it on Friday after work, and then you spend the next 2 days eating the meat. On Monday/part way through Tuesday you're still living off the fat and bone marrow. But by Wednesday you're starting to get hungry again.
So if you're asking on a Wednesday if you want to go seal clubbing, well...

Let's say you're a forward-looking sort of dude, onward-and-upward, the best is yet to come, etc. By wednesday, you're already looking forward to the future. So this weekend means the one just a few days away, and next weekend means the one 8 days away. If your the sort of guy who likes to hang on to memories, reflect on good times had, and not worrying too much about the future and just taking things as they come, then on wednesday you'll still be looking back on this weekend, and so next weekend is the one just a few days away. Both are valid, I don't try to force my wednesday vibe on anyone.

I am in the middle of a debate, so I am hoping CP can solve it:
Scenario: Today is Wednesday. Someone asks you "Hey, do you want to go to the game next weekend?"
In this scenario, does "next weekend" refer to:
The weekend coming up in ~3 days
The weekend after the one coming up (~10 days)
Unless he wanted you to go on a road trip it has to be 'B'

I suspect some would interpret things differently, depending on how far away the weekend was.
For example, if today were Monday, 'this weekend' would be yesterday; 'next weekend' would be 5 days from now

Ok, so fiancee and I were discussing tonight... "NEXT summer" as of right now would be summer of 2012 or summer 2013?

2012 would be next summer. While you're in the summer of 2012 you would call it this summer. Furthermore if you talk about a trip you took this summer, you're referring to the summer of 2011

If we're in winter now, wouldn't that be last summer?

True. If I asked you what you did last summer, I'd expect you to say what you did 4-5 months ago, not 16-17 months ago.
Then again, I could have just asked what you did during the summer.
It is a minefield this - would have made for a great Seinfeld episode.
On an unrelated note - is or isn't it winter right now?
And when I say 'winter' I am referring to the season as it could or should be in the Northern Hemisphere, which as everybody knows, is the best hemisphere in the world!

By the calander, no. Winter doesn't start until the end of December.
Looking outside the office door and seeing 8 feet of snow? Yes, it's winter.

True. But I still think you could say this summer I went to Invermere.
I think it's a more grey area.
