This is pretty crazy. I'm seeing 2TB drives for $200-300 now.

I bought my 2TB drive in the summer for $74.99. Pretty lucrative money making opportunity if you happened to have a large stock of drives you can sell at this point.

I wonder what WD would send me back if I sent in a few of the dead Enterprise and Raptor drives I have lying around that had 5 year warranty.

Anyone here use a Solid State Drive? They're much more expensive but are supposed to be very fast

Yes and yes. Can't go back to mechanical ever again. Still use mechanicals for storage like movies/music, etc. that is not speed dependent (like booting, starting programs, closing programs, loading things, etc.).

I have a solid state in my Macbook Air, and I will never, ever go old timey spin drive ever again, except for simple storage of movies/music. My Macbook boots up from cold dead off, to full on and running in about 5 seconds.

If you have an iPad, or iPhone, you have already seen the speeds they run at, as it is very comparable.

iOS devices take forever to boot, though.

Re-boot, yes.

I am more talking about the speed of applications booting up, and the speed you can search the device.

I'm just spoiled by the ridiculous speed at which my WP7 device does everything including boot times.

I was looking at buying some storage a few months ago, really wish I had. :\

I got a new computer from NCIX about three weeks ago. I didn't order a hard drive, just an SSD as I thought prices were too high. I should have ordered the HD as prices aren't dropping soon.

If you have an SSD, you just need a storage drive so just find some older used drives or buy an external and rip out the drive. Those prices haven't flucated as much (but that is changing soon)

I've still got a 1TB WD Black that I have to RMA, I should do that and then sell it for big $$!

And I also will never go back from SSD for a primary drive.

My 2 TB external drive is barely half full, it will last me for a while. I would love to replace the internal C drive with a SSD though. 64GB should be adequate for a SSD to store the OS and most programs I would think, right? I mean for a non-power user, just am average-joe Windows 7 home user?

Yeah for many people 64GB might be enough, though even just a few apps and games can get you close to that pretty quickly, with many games being 10+GB you only need a couple and you're full.

The highest performing 120GB drives are around $200 and less during a decent sale, and you can get a OCZ Agility 3 120GB for $165.

Wow this is crazy. Glad I got another 2TB a month ago. Was thinking of another one but good thing I can hold off for now.

I guess Thailand produces a lot of motorcycles and parts too, so this is affecting the big bike makers.

I lucked out when I went to future shop to buy a 1 tb drive. They were all listed at $109, but when I took it to the til, it scanned at $209. They gave it to me for $109, reluctantly. There website is showing it for $209.

You would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling CP'ers.
