One great thing was that America would role out its cyberwarfare division and they talked about computer viruses, and one Nasa Scientist totally deadpans, "Yeah that wouldn't work, their computers would be different"
Watched the preview, looks cool. I will have to check out when it is on next..

You assume that aliens would have proper counter technology to something that may / may not have been invented on their home planet.
No, I assume if they are going to schlep their skinny green ass's all the way here from the other side of the galaxy they will spend a few weeks working out how we kill each other and how they can stop it before landing.
The one premise in Battle Los Angeles is that they were invading us for water when there is lots of water throughout the universe that wouldn't cost them tons of soldiers and other assets.
Don't get me wrong, I like the movie, but the premise was a little ID4

Considering the absoloute slagging the critics gave it I really liked it
I agree with the water problem, I also thought geezers tieing ballons was a bit dim as well, one would assume the aliens would just move the ship when they saw them, or just shoot them as they floated slowely and without control upwards.

Some of the effects were decent, it had a couple cool scenes. But over-all that movie was awful. I felt like it was one big 2 hour advert to join the Marines. That and anything with Michelle Rodriguez is destined to be utter crap (Avatar was too amazing for her to destroy, despite her best efforts).
The fact that the Aliens actually looked like soldiers. That they were diving for cover, that they were dragging their wounded to safety, that while they were tough to kill, they were vulnerable.
I liked the main characters, the first combat scene where they were going through the smoke and taking fire was as real as it gets in terms of believing that these guys were scared and nervous.
I liked the turnaround near the end where the aliens realized that they were in serious trouble and retreated.
I liked that there were no invulnerable shields that needed to be broken down.
I thought it was a pretty solid movie.
Retreat? Hell we just got here.

If Aliens attacked, wouldn't it make the most sense to inform them that they are in violation of the prime directive and if they leave now, we promise not to tell on them?
