I would not trust any company that goes around banging on your door. Hail storms produce all sorts of instant roofing companies.

If you are concerned about damage, then report to your insurer. No good insurer should cancel your claims free status.

I don't understand it, with the amount of legitimate work available from insurance companies right now how do these guys have time to go door to door? We can't even find enough contractors to do the work right now so I assume these guys are not being given work by insurance companies for whatever reason.

Are they three tab? If it is cracking down the shingle then it's manufaturer.

IKO have had lots of trouble.

I could not find the Alberta Statement of Claim, but here is the Ontario:

They came by our place and as well, they offered a free assessment, so I said yes, but after reading this, I will cancel when they call to make an appointment.

Platinum Construction wouldn't answer simple questions i had for the canvasser that came knocking, they were hitting up my area pretty hard as well. I would stay away from them.

Stick to the above list if you can as they have all been in business for more than 5 years and are trusted names in the industry. Problem is they are all likely booked out but just be patient and get things done properly with a warranty that will be around when you need it. Some of the new roofing companies that were born during the last few hail storms won't be around to back up their work and will go back to the other industries that they came from. Some of the crews up on the roofs these days should have surveillance on them Many of them aren't local to the area and just moved here for the hail storm...

Platinum called me incessantly until I finally told them I wasn't interested. The guy on the phone actually got a little annoyed with me and started asking things like "you don't want a free roof?"... it was like being beaten over the head with a red flag.

Three-tab: is that based on the shape of the shingle (pardon my ignorance on the subject)

Couldn't find the AB lawsuit either, but lots of info for Ontario one including http://www.classaction.ca/actions/pr...-shingles.aspx

Will have to try & dig into it further and try & find out who the builder hired for the roofing I guess. Not sure how else to tell if Iko or some other company.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Just found the architecture drawings for our house from the builder.

Sure enough: IKO Renaissance shingles

Will have to explore status of the lawsuit further I guess. From what I'm reading so far, good luck to the consumer.

Update...

One quote from reputable roofing company (almost fell over after hearing the price, but I'm still here...lol).

Definitely need replacing - again IKO Renaissance crap about 9 yrs old - cracking, splitting and turned up - had some recent small amount of water in garage after last rainfall. No shingles missing that I know of.

The catch: 2 neighbours across the road are in the process of replacing their roof. Both got it through insurance. Same IKO shingles. They say from wind storm in November. They did have about 5 shingles which blew off the house.

Is it worth getting insurance out to look at even though no shingles blew off?
Other suggestions (other than tearing some off myself...lol...which I'd rather not get in to...

Thanks

My parents just got a new roof from the November Wind Storm up in Citadel. And now after the hail 2 weeks ago, may be in need of another one. I have Home Depot coming out to inspect my roof and siding this week through RBC Insurance. The Siding, patio sliding door and one window need replacing for sure, and from what we can tell, so will the roof.

Just re-read you post, missed it earlier, but if no shingles missing then no the insurance won't replace it.

Regarding the water entering the property, was it very windy when it rained last? Often the water entering has nothing to do with the shingles, but everything to do with the joint around vents, plumbing collars, etc. Often the wind will drive the rain up and into your property. Perhaps it's a building envelope issue.

FYI, I believe that even though the IKo shingles are cracked, it does not affect their ability to do their job as shingles.

No it's not, your insurance company is not a maintenance company...

My insurance adjuster just looked at my roof after the Aug 12 hail. He said the damage is about $11K (a complete reroof and some siding damage) and it's up to the insurance company how much to pay me off. So how much compensation will I likely be getting? $11K or a fraction of $11K?

Are you replacing the roof or taking a cash settlement? Usually the cash settlement would eb about 80% of the pre-tax amount and then subject to your deducitble.

depends on your policy, you should be able to pay your deductible and get 100% of the cost covered. I would also ask how this will effect your premiums as in some cases "act of God" will not effect your premium. Don't quote me on that though
