Haven't had any lag issues with mine.

Also, loving the game. I haven't played guitar in years, and I feel like I'm back in the swing of things after a few hours of playing.

As others have mentioned, you'll need a book on theory to actually learn any music. However, for the actual physical skills this game is great. It's really helping me with issues like tempo and learning to play without looking down at my fingers.

Also, I wouldn't buy the game with the guitar. You're better off buying the game seperately, then using the $150 or so towards a half descent guitar. You can get a descent Epiphone for $300-400. The resale value on the Epiphone will be pretty good so you can sell it to upgrade to a better guitar or sell it if you find its just not for you.

There is definitely lag and you get this on expensive software on the PC as well. You need a very powerful and expensive ADC and good ASIO to deal with this stuff.

So I bought Rocksmith for the PS3 tonight for $69. It's a cool concept and I'm glad someone has finally figured out how to do this for the mainstream without needing a fancy pick-up or an expensive equipment. The song selection is pretty mundane though and quite disappointing. I guess that's the problem with all music type games is that it will only satisfy one segment of the crowd. I'm disappointed that unlike guitar hero which seemed to have a good balance between classic 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s rock of various genres...this game seems mostly stuck in 90s-2000s alternative which is totally not my scene.

The song selection has really disappointed me. I guess I should have checked it out first but I guess it's a good thing to have and it's probably the most fun I've ever had in a music game even if I'm not totally into the tracks represented.

It's a good learning tool but the song selection sucks and how they arrange most of the songs is boring as hell for someone who already knows how to play. The good thing is that unlike guitar hero, you can actually go off and do rhythm and riff and improvise around whatever they present to you, as long as you do hit the notes that do show up on time.

The other good thing is the different amp modelling options etc. that they provide seems to sound quite nice so it's a decent replacement for having a whole amp setup for beginners as the $69 the game costs is way cheaper than even buying the cheapest modelling amp!

Been playing this more and more. Have to say I disagree about your criticisms about song choice. They've obviously focussed on more guitar driven stuff, but the selection goes back into the 60s and 70s for sure.

They've got:

House of the Rising Sun
Sunshine of your Love
Boys Don't Cry
Rebel Rebel
Sweet Home Alabama
Where is My Mind
Also a few Stones Songs.

There's definitely an emphasis on songs within the last 3 years, but the selection is pretty solid. You also have the option to buy additional songs. The selection isn't the greatest yet for downloadable songs but they do have a couple of 60s and 70s packs.

Overall though, I can see how if you don't like stuff like the Black Keys, you probably won't like the song selection.

Everyone knows I like my 80s, whether pop or metal or alternative. That decade was completely neglected in this game and in the store also (wow $2.99 for a song?).

I want Dio, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Mötley Crue, Van Halen, and even Whitesnake.

There are plenty of guitar driven pop and funk songs as well from that decade. Prince would be great but he's never in any game, some 80s songs from the Cure would be nice, etc.

I'm going to have to hook up my PS3 via analog audio to try to deal with some of the lag/latency. I'm probably doing a bit worse in the game now that the difficulty is ramping up due to the timing being really off between what I see on screen and the sound coming out from the speakers. Also, I might hook the guitar through another amp or pre-amp or compressor to get some more volume out of it but the amp modelling in this game impresses me for something off a disc running on a games console coming out of TV speakers.

Well they do have the one song by the Cure. However, you do raise a good ponit about 80s music. A couple of 80s style rock balads would be fun. If they could get some Appetite on there, I would be ecstatic.

Like I said before, they're still adding songs all the time.

Yeah, and the one Cure song is 1979 and more late 70s punk than what you normally would associate with The Cure.
