Outlaws was my go-to, like a 15min walk from my house. Loved that place, especially on Thursdays. Metro was where you went to get knifed, but being a 5min cab ride from my house we went there lots on Mondays, had some good times. Saw a bouncer drop a guy on his face there, dislodging his jaw. That was Metro in a nutshell.
I liked Bourbon St the brief time it was open. Bar downstairs, club in the middle, terrace upstairs. Can't go wrong.
Frankly any bar I went to probably counts as "old Calgary bars", as I swear there's not a bar left that I went to (save for good ole Crack Alley)...and I'm still in my 20's. Man that city changes fast.

Didn't they have 25 cent draft night on Mondays? And the strip club Misty's right next door.

I still find it surprising that somehow during my bar hopping days I managed to skip going to the Warehouse. Always heard people talk about it, but never went.

Yeah the Warehouse was one of my main hang outs - the basement, though. I think it was called The Underground.
The Den & Max's Cafe at the UofC.
Yukatan's.
The old Republik.

The Westward Club was a great place for bands, anybody remember Wes Hegg?
The Ship and Anchor back in the day for Halloween was awesome, Forbidden Dimension would always play the best Halloween shows there.

The Highlander and Airliner? both used to have big halls with live bands, circa 1970ish. Then disco came along and ruined it.

IIRC, Nirvana played at the Westward.
Bob Mould (in his auto-biography) talks about Husker Du playing at the National - "cowboys and indians" were brawling while they played.

Woody's 17th Ave...Friday nights only.
Get loaded, then head outside and watch the fights spill out of the bar.
Good times!

I also forgot the Castle Pub and Corner Pocket. The Castle Pub had the best jukebox.
Wow, what the hell is a "jukebox?"
I'm so old....
