Rusty Nail - could be your first and last drink.
Back when I turned 18 we hit the Fox on 11th, my buddy actually enjoyed drinking those. He was downing them like they were glasses of water.

As is tradition they got me started with a bloody Prairie Fire, but I love spice so I took it down ok.

I've heard Vinyl is pretty good other than the fact it is small. This may be a stupid question but what exactly is the difference between a bar and a pub? I would probably try a prairie fire if I could handle anything hotter than mild salsa. Also a cement mixer is out of the question.

A bar/club:

Cover charge
Loud (awful) music
Tapout/redbull fans
Obnoxious slutty girls
Sticky floors
Expensive booze (Beer only in bottles)
Line ups (although the Ship does get line ups)
Dancing

As you can tell, it's not my thing. Clearly a lot of people like them though. I definitely went to them far more when I was 18 than I do now.

Pubs:

No cover
Quieter
Cheaper beer + more variety (Pitchers and pints!)
Food
Tables
TVs + sports
Some have karaoke which is hilarious and sad

Overall, I prefer pubs. I'd rather sit around with my friends and get tanked off beer, while stuffing my face with pub food than go to a laser show full of ####heads looking to fight.

Me and my buddies used to buy each other Prairie Fires all the time for ships and giggles. It got to the point that people would stop doing them so it'd be a waste of money to even buy them.

I continued to buy them but called them Clamato Pleasures. Lol. Worked a couple times only.

I didn't think it was that bad.

Go for the traditional 18th.

- Shotgun a bunch of beers with your friends.
- Cab it to downtown and hit some pubs / clubs
- Hit the rippers
- Ralf in the bushes
- Call it a night

Drink as much as you possibly can at any establishment and let your friends take care of the rest. This guarantees hilarious stories for years to come.

Vinyl sucks, the place is like 6 square feet and they pack 100's of people in there. Music was awful (although I really don't like any club music) and the talent was quite bad. Maybe it was just a bad night, but I'm not going back.

Also, hopefully you already know this, but don't mix alcohol's. Stick with one and only one for the night (or one with beer). I made the mistake and took 6 shooters of different variety when I was in Europe to try them all and the next morning was a mofo. Tequila, Whiskey, Southern Comfort, Vodka, etc. Terrible hangover (had beers too!).

I'd put a vote in for hitting up Ming to start an evening (have some pricey martinis and order the ginger beef) and then head over to the Ship & Anchor and get attacked by cougars. Cap it off with drunkenly eating a Thai Thai sub (RIP Wicked Wedge on 17th).
That was my joint. Loved it there.

But if that place ever had a fire, oh my, it would have been a national tragedy. There is no way a bunch of drunk morons could have navigated that long windy staircase out of that place, plus it was a frikkin labrynth in there. Lots of discreet little corners to get a HJ from your babe.

You forgot to mention or maybe it's just me but it's far easyier to get laid in a pub than a nightclub. Pubs with live entertainment and dancing are the best as you get some "move time" between sets. The OP is turning 18 so he might have to fight off a few cougars to get too a young one though.
