I think your only recourse is to appeal to the league. For an ejection like that the refs should have done a write up, so you can find out what warranted the gross misconduct.
Legally I'm pretty sure you have no case, unless you want to sue for slander or something to that effect

I had an incident kinda like this 2 seasons ago. I got hit by a guy and I said "You hit like a chick" as it turns out he was asian, and what he heard was "You hit like a (racial slur for chinese people)". He went and talked to the ref about it and the ref came to me and asked if I said that and I explained to him that no I didn't say anything racist I just said he hit like a chick. And that was the end of that.

I'm not a lawyer (though I am in my final year of law school) and I don't think there is any sort of defamation action here because there weren't any damages. Would just be a waste of time.
Appeal to your league executive to have the suspension dropped, that's about all you can do. And hope you catch that jerk in the trolley tracks next time around.

Personally, I think you should hire the best lawyer money can buy, and take this to the highest court in the country. Have the timekeeper, and other player charged with a hate crime, and have their lives subsequently destroyed as their names are published in National Media. Eventually you could have a national holiday named after you for your fight against racial slurs in mens league hockey.
Or, you could realize that you were chirping in the penalty box, got confrontational with a timekeeper that is only there for the $15 bucks that helps pay his way through the office machine maintenence course at Devry, and didn't want to put up with your BS and Jonny Litigation attitude, then tossed you. You could then subsequently take your lumps and move on.
The time keepers at these games do not care about what your perception of a call is, or what is going on between you and another player. They are there to push start/stop, and get their 15 or 20 bucks. They are usually the only people in the building that actually realize it is a stupid, meaningless, mens league hockey game.

It was disrespectful, cowardly, and ridiculous but what can you do. He eventually apologized but everyone on my team looks for him with his head down now , even though its a non contact league. Its a penalty well worth it every time in our books.
P.S our team beast his team out of the playoffs this season so he didnt win that Oklahoma City mens league championship he coveted so bad. Best part of the season for me!

There are certain things that are over the line in any situation, forum, or setting. I agree on the sentiments of other posters that you are a bigger man for not doing anything at the time. But personally, I don't care where I was, or what I was doing, someone makes a comment like that to me, I am going to end up doing some time for what my response would be.

Yeah for sure I hear ya.... Dont think the thought didnt cross my mind but what can ya do... At least now he is paying for it everytime he steps on the ice against us and even when any of my friends are playing pick up when he decides to show up.
I pretty much liken this to Robyn Regehr giving Hemsky a ride on the tunnel of death but instead of just Robyn going after Alice its the whole Flames squad..... of course this is the lowest level of hockey in Oklahoma so it doesnt look as cool!

it is hockey in Oklahoma you didn't need to add the "lowest" part it was implied.

I dunno why you were bothering the time keeper for the name and number, your team gets a copy of the score sheet after the game which would have that exact same info on it.
Now I'm not defending the other guys actions but part of this story seems a little off to me. Why would the scorekeeper (unless he knows the other guy somehow) make up that you started the whole thing?

Find out when and where his next game is, show up drunk and then throw a dead fish on the ice in the third period. At least that's what flameswin would do!

Sure there were, none worth involving a lawyer over but there are definitely damages.

Ha, I would actually think that if any court would consider missing two mens league hockey games as damages worth suing over it would be a Canadian one

Trying to get the guy's name and number from the scorekeeper right after the incident made you look bad. I don't blame the scorekeeper for not giving it to you. If you wanted to make a complaint to the league about the racial comment, you should have calmly mentioned it to the ref, and gone to the league website after the game.

If I was the timekeeper, I'd refuse too. It would be a heated situation and I would have no idea what the person would do with this information. the rest of the stuff that happened, I don't know.

When I was in Tulsa in '99 I picked up an Oilers jersey there. I hate the Oil but just had to get one with Tulsa on it.
An Air Force league that is pretty cool.

I think you were assessed a gross misconduct for abuse of officials (timekeeper), so I don't see you winning any sort of appeal for that.

I would have told him to just look at the back of the guy's jersey. Unless he kept his back to the OP the entire time, it'd be easy to see. It'd also be fun to see him skating around not letting him see the number.
