School guidance counselors and social workers met with Rodemeyer over the years but none seemed to strive to help him, his father said. One counselor's advice was simply to stop spending time with girls, he said.

Interesting use of a Malcolm X quote there Starseed, but I think that the schools inaction is the most aggravating thing in this whole thing, their lack of action is on the same level of disgusting as the bullies actions.

Slightly off topic, but somewhat related...

This weekend, there was bashing at a gay pub in Calgary (all of my knowledge is 2nd hand from the pub owner). The woman was physically assaulting patrons and using homophobic slurs. When the cops were called, they refused to press "hate crime" charges, because there was no evidence to support.

These issues run very deep and are going to take a long time, a lot of effort and a lot of money to solve.
