I am just getting very tired of seeing coupons for this place from Dealfind / Groupon / Living Social nearly every week.

Hah, my wife and I had an almost identical experience as you did albertGQ.
That place is only in business because of the dealfind/groupon deals, I'm sure of it. Not only did we wait forever for our food and drinks, but I basically had to yell at one of the waiters and say if he didn't bring the bill in the next 30 seconds we were walking out.
He still didn't so I threw down the coupon and another $5 or $10... I think I probably shorted them but after waiting for hours for everything I didn't really care.
Edit: We called it our worst dining experience of our lives and we've been to some horrible places in Cambodia.

Holy crap, I read some of those reviews on the urbanspoon, that sounds absolutely terrible.
It is funny though, looking at the reviews that are obviously seeded by the ownership.

I went right when they opened and the food there was edible back then, it seems we got lucky and thing have gone downhill. When a restaurant shows up on dealfind, groupon and livingsocial many times in under a year, you know theres something wrong with it.

Haha, this place is the funniest place on earth, and not the good kind of funny.
I brought my date there which was a huge mistake. I was served by the most confused waiter in restaurant history. At first we were wondering why the waiter isn't asking us for drinks, 10 minutes later he came back to take our order, and at that point we were ready to order drinks and food. So not thinking too much about it, we just submitted our order and waited. Almost an hour later he returns, not with our drinks, but with food that is not ours. I told him this isn't what we ordered, which somehow confused him because he insisted this was for our table. What was hilarious was the fact that he had THREE dishes, when we only ordered TWO. The company of 3 beside us were clearly the ones who ordered that food. They even told him they order that food he was about to serve us!
The music was also hilarious. It was loud and overpowering. We could barely hear each other talk.

Had a similar experience at a now defunct restaurant here in Lethbridge. To make a long story short, we got there around 5:30 pm to have supper as we were going to the Hurricanes came at 7:00pm. The waitress forgot that she was serving our table. Took our order rather late, then forgot to submit the order to the kitchen. Talked to the manager who said to call ahead when we're coming back and we can pick it up, for free, after the game. We did that, picked it up, took it home... it wasn't fresh, they kept it warm for the ~3 hours we were gone. My sister-in-law took it back, the waitress was crying over the incident, so she gave the waitress a $20 tip... unbelievable.

I now check Urbanspoon & Health Inspection before buying any Groupons (or similar deals) for restaurants I haven't tried before. There are so many that are quite bad, and there is a reason they are giving out the deals.

I can't say I have had flautas from Paloma, but most everything I have had has been very good. They have one of the best guacamoles I have ever had.
I haven't had El Sombrero in a while, but I would have had them as my third favourite in Calgary after Paloma & Tu Tierra. We'd often get one of their combo deals delivered. I really liked their chimichangas.

I want to go to this place now. I'm intrigued.
Did anyone ever go to the Red Iguana in the strip mall on 4th st and about 23rd, I think. They had some good food in there when they first opened. Kind of turned into a local dive bar after awhile.

I'll second Los Chilitos. Rather enjoy their taco samplers., the tacos taste just like what I had in Mexico (although that was at a resort so I imagine it's not authentic).

Tu Tierra is the only Mexican place that gets my money anymore. It's what I'd call "US quality"

I like Taco Time in SouthCenter.
It's kind of weird that the waitress won't come to your table, but the food makes up for the "Mexican-style" (aka "lazy) service.
It's a pretty busy place and I don't know how they managed to serve that massive dining room so quickly, but I got a table right away.
The last time I was there I ordered a "Super Bean Burrito" (I think it's their specialty, the waitress was really pushing it) and it was excellent. A little skimpy on the sour cream though so I asked for a little more and she gave it up right away, for free.
The Super Bean itself was awesome. They are amazingly consistent there, even though they have ridiculous kitchen turnover. I don't think I've ever seen the same chef twice, but it's always the same high-quality Messican grub.

They had a deal find or something a few months back. We went and had no complaints about it. It was busy but we got served in good time and enjoyed the food.

I've eaten there three times and all three times, the service was crap, and the food was nothing to write home about. I don't necessarily expect to be wowed by a dish at a place like that, but for the prices they charge, and the way you wait and wait and wait for a drink, something should be great about the place, but all I can think of that's great about that place is the view from the patio.

Tried Mucho Burrito in Crowfoot today, operated by the famous Mexican, Jai Singh:

Better than Taco Time or Taco Bell. An ok attempt at a Mission District burrito in San Fran.
