Answer: BCGirl

Who derails a thread seeking help for a pet just to comment on the OP's lack of Fire on Ice activity?

Answer: SebC

Who cares?

Answer: about the answer to SebC's question? not me. About the pointless derailing of a worthwhile thread? Me.

All I'm saying is there might be better resources for dog psychology than a community of Calgary Flames fans.

True. But maybe you should have said that, instead.

Could be she just misses your brother when he's not around.

My brother's cockerspaniel just mopes around or sleeps whenever he leaves her overnight with family. Then once he picks her up again, she is glued to his side whereever he goes.

I can't believe the blatant abuse of the off topic forum around here. Dog questions? What's next, relationship questions? Favorite beers? My god, what has this forum become? Seriously, if you're a Flames fan, you are obviously not qualified to give an opinion on why a dog is moping. Take your stupid mopey dog to Cesar Milan and let us Flames fans continue to think about the Calgary Flames 24/7/365.

2) Our other three retrievers are not only family pets but once they are mature are going to be breeding dogs. My brother intended to breed Chelsea a couple times and as of yet (again) doesn't get his act together when she goes into heat.

3) Dogs have different personalities yes, but my question then would be is it common for a dogs personality to change over time? You have had your retrievers before, did you ever see them over time withdraw and become completely opposite of what they used to be like unless circumstances changed? Because thats what she is doing and my only answer to that would be that because my brother is taking her once in a while ( and by that I mean two days or so every 2-3 weeks) and not only influencing her to become a 'couch potato' if you will, but also depressing her because it makes her miss him when he is not around.

4) Pick a new home? We are her family and she knows it, but she also knows that she belongs to my brother. To pick a new home wouldn't do any good because she is happy here with the other dogs and the kids, just not the dog she used to be, again reiterating, I feel that this is due to the house-bouncing. And I'm assuming there is no actual law that we could get a loophole to make him sell her to us because he's being a 'negligent owner' and doesn't man up and keep her. Cause if there was I'd probably go for it!

Thanks for the tips though! I do appreciate it and take everything you say! I adore her so much and my boyfriend desperately wants to buy her off my brother but he refuses and it really makes me upset to see her be treated like that. I feel if it's your dog, you take the responsibility, however that is not her case right now and we keep trying to buy her.
So, you're wondering why three pre-pubescent puppies have a different energy level than a mature five year-old?

That's like asking what the difference would be between three 14 year-old teenage girls and a 35 year-old woman.

If you don't know that then you probably shouldn't be backyard breeders. You've got "stereotype" stamped on your foreheads. Find some other way to make some money.

What sort of magic pixie dust did your brother sprinkle on you and your mother to get you to take Chelsea for five days a week? Stop enabling him. Tell him its your place or his place and nothing in between. Or just don't take her back to his place one day.

And maybe tell him he's being an A-hole.

And now . . . . . I've got other things to do.

As others have already stated, please do not breed these dogs. It is obvious(to me at least) that you really don't know the breed and are doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Wow, that's the most heated I've seen Cow get since he removed himself from talking in the political threads years ago.

Good to see.
