I was really holding out hope that Dowling would make the team, but not surprised that those players listed got sent down.

Most likely the Flames have three-ish cuts left, so put the Abbotsford number at 28 and subtract 5 bodies, and that's probably the final roster.

Armstrong being cut is kind of a surprise to me but it just shows how deep the Heat are this season. I don't see any mention of Desbiens yet.

That's going to be a loooong road back for John Armstrong.

Adding Byron, Walter, Sylvester and maybe even Kolanos could turn them into a pretty dominant force offensively. Quite the turnaround from the last few years for them starting a season with two or three established point a game AHL forwards.

Practice, Practice, practice.

Quote:
The 39 players currently at camp have been split into two groups, and while practices haven't been much longer than an hour, the pace seems exceptionally quicker than last year, according to a handful of returning players.
"It's intense out there," said sophomore defenceman T.J. Brodie.

Coach Troy Ward on cuts: "They did lots of the things we told them to, but didn't do them with enough consistency or good enough execution."

That makes sense. Although John Armstrong always seemed to give it his all. I think in the case of Armstrong and Dowling, they're just victims of an incredibly deep Heat team this year. I feel sorry for them, but if they light it up in Utah they can make the coaches regret their decisions.

Its the heat, they are bound to be struck with the injury bug.

They will be given a chance a some point.

Coach Ward "Laing will wear the C this weekend w/Piskula & Meyer A's as returning players"

some line combos
Bouma-Laing-Meyer
Rheault-Byron-Desbiens

Heat still carrying 3 goalies, but Irving gets the start this Friday vs Lake Erie

Carter Bancks injured, but not a head injury

Besides the Heat hiring a goalie coach, the Heat now have a sleep coach. Article is a good preview of the Heat.

Quote:
An area of concern the team desperately needs to address is the their significant amount of injuries having lost well over 600 man games through their first two seasons.
The Heat believe part of it has to do with the travel schedule it endures being the furthest west coast team in the league, and has begun taking measures to fix the issue.
"We've looked at everything from a sleep doctor to how we travel and when we travel," said Ward. "We're at one of the farthest parts of the American Hockey League for travel so we've looked into a lot of issues.
"What the doctor is educating us on is (travel habits). We would get on a bus in certain cities because we finished on a certain night, we'd get on a bus and we'd travel.
"Some trips this year we're going to stay in the city we just played in and then travel the next day — we won't travel at night to give them a little bit better rest."

^^Interesting. Didn't the Canucks try something similar last year? Rather than traveling overnight and then travel the next day?
