What would stop any company from patenting a "cure for cancer" and charging the same amount of money? I'm assuming any total cure wouldn't be a single dose of something.

What I'm saying is; if there were to be a magical cure, any company could own it and distribute it at whatever cost they wanted. Cost is too high? Well then those people buy the previous remedies. Either way, owning a cure would make anybody huge money and it would be pointless to keep it a secret.
