When I check out of the hotel I try to just dump all the coins and very small bills on the counter to go against the bill then pay the balance with with credit card. They always take it and i don't have any small useless coins/bills to bring home and never use.
It is kind of funny in China when they count up so many little coins and funny small bills (not RMB, something smaller) and it adds up to $5 or so. Oh well, keeps it in circulation in its own country.
