We have one tree so far, it's a rad maple. Gorgeous.

Of course, the climates are completely different.

I'd love to have some spruce trees, but they don't do well in the heat here.

Favorite tree? I'd say Spruce. Barely needs any water, grows vertical, no leaves to clean up, no fruits to pick off it.... can't ask for more

Pine trees wreck the lawn? That's news to me. Never have I seen bad lawn around a pine tree.
I don't know if it's pine trees specifically. Trees with needles and pinecones and such falling on the ground don't do good things to the lawn, I know that. "Pine Tree" is I guess a generic term for know-nothings like me to call trees that don't have leaves but needles.

The fallen needles are acidic and/or the trees don't let in enough sunshine or they suck up all the water or something and the lawn dies or just looks bad. Maybe it doesn't work that way somewhere else but if you look at the grass under the branches of a tree with needles around here (Calgary) it doesn't exactly look like the fairway at Augusta.

as far as trees, im looking at getting cedars (they are slim, tall, controlled bushy things that look great)

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

i think he means spruce trees - the needles are very acidic and kill the lawn underneath

Right, come to think of it, the lawn edge in my backyard under the spruce is receding. Have to move the underground sprinklers this year because of it. However, it's only the grass directly under the branches, nothing further out. I thought it was just the sun, never knew they were acidic. CP comes through again!

As to the tree kermitology was thinking about.... it's probably a Birch tree. The bark is white and peels off like paper. Come to think of it... I think it's called a Paper Birch tree.
