Is it the 6th already? Isn't it always the way, you think you have all the time in the world to plan the death of thousands, and then you check the calendar and realize you're way, way behind.

But wouldn't the anniversary be EXACTLY when nobody will expect it? I mean, you're just paying the CIA some overtime to get the thermite in place over the weekend anyway , so you might as well go for maximum impact.

The night before the japan earthquake happened I had a dream I was watching the news on TV and an earthquake had struck. If anything of interest shows up on the news in my dreams on September 10 I'll warn you guys.
No major terrorist attack. People are too on alert for it now. At the time of Sept 11, Osama and thousands of peolpe were allowed to work safely in the borders of Afghanistan. Not so much anymore.
Al Queda exists only in isolated parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan now. Phone calls are monitored. So are bank accounts, internet use, etc... Pulling off an operation as complex as 9/11 would be extremely difficult now.
The only likely successful attack in this day and age would be a fertilizer bomb type of incident. This would be tragic but would not have the impact of crashing passenger jets into the world trade centre.

Everyone is expecting something. CNN hysteria is all over it.

Why would the anniversary be any more likely than any other date?
Unless I'm misremembering, there were materials in the Bin Laden compound that indicated that at least initial plans had been made to derail trains in the U.S. on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11/01.
I really wish I'd looked at the calendar more closely before booking a flight into JFK for Sunday. I wouldn't say I'm expecting an attack, but I might be a little tense on that flight.
However I wouldn't be shocked if there were smaller incidents by single unstable people looking for their 15 minutes, much like the Virginia Tech shooter. But a large/organized attack looking to strike on the 10 year anniversary date which falls on a sunday? no.
On average, about 150,000 people die somewhere on the planet every day.
So, it would be hard to top that.
Seriously, if you remember the immediate aftermath of 9/11, people were terrified of going to large, open stadium sporting events, concerts, etc and lots of paranoia about flying anywhere.
Generational holders of season tickets to the New York Giants were giving them up. People were firesaling their Manhattan apartments.
For a couple of years thereafter, anytime a terror attack occurred anywhere in the world, stock markets plummetted.
I remember one particular terror attack in Saudi Arabia in about 2003 . . . . . and there was no reaction in stock markets for the first time since 9/11.
People had moved on and were living their lives again.
Its been pretty much that way ever since. If attendance for Major League Baseball is falling it isn't because of a threat of terror . . . . . its a boring product.
The point here is the public expects nothing will happen and they'll probably be right about that.

sadly I think it will happen again not around 911 though, but it will be random and have no significant date tied to it. But you can't live in fear thats not living.
Hopefully all governments continue to share information and intercept terrorist cells.
What would the terrorists gain by attacking on an anniversary vs. any other day. Either way the attack would be big news and likely create it's desired effect. (terror, sorrow, and anger) Not having it on a big occasion or at a high profile event just makes it easier to pull off.
It hadn't crossed my mind...until I read this thread.
Thanks for that.

If you could pull off an attack when the entire world is extra vigilant against it happening, I think it would do extra harm the psyche of the American population, since it means that despite everything that they have been though, they still are not safe.
