Their timing is always immaculate. The anthem finishes and BOOM!
Yeah that's usually true haha except today the timing wasn't so immaculate. The flyover happened right in the middle of the anthem and after the boom throughout the stadium, the fans forgot about the anthem and began cheering before it was finished. lol
Not sure of the cost- I would guess somewhere in the thousands. But let's say the cost is $10K. The Stamps/CFL/TSN have all made Labour Day into an "event"- one not to be missed. So for every ticket sold over and above what they normally sell; $1.50 went to the F18 flyby.
People (myself included) often complain about how bush league the CFL is. Then they decide to do something cool, and other people start in on how the CFL should be saving money.
They really should have done a better half time show than Broken Toyz singing out of a truck at the end of the field if they wanted to shake the 'bush league' image. Now that was bad.

Hey, I love military hardware as much as any nerd and will be excited to see the first CF-35 Lightning II's and I absolutely believe in increasing the role of the Canadian military in the world arena and in policing our sovereignty.
But... wasteful spending on military expenditures is one of the main factors in the crumbling U.S. economy.
If they were going to be logging flight hours/training anyway, that's fine. I just don't want to see taxpayers money wasted on pay for jets to fly over a football game.

I wasn't at the game, but I was in the neighbourhood, and all I saw was one plane that flew N-S a couple of times. It's not like the plane invaded a country and spent ten years there. It did a flyover.

Why do they waste money on this? How expensive is it to fly a CF-18 over a football game? Can't that money be better spent on other things that don't just last a split second?
I was at the season opening game in Seattle a few years ago and just got some helicopter flyover.
I would be more impressed if this was the flyover they got at the game today:
cleared the scoreboard by 58 feet!

Yeah, but the tradition of jets doing a flyover at the Labour Day Classic game has been going on since 1985.
Therefore, it is good and worthwhile.

I love it. You know it is a big game when you get a flyover. Their timing is always immaculate. The anthem finishes and BOOM! A second of awesomeness that is unparalleled to anything you get in a domed stadium.
Wish I could be there today instead I have to settle for watching it on TV. Looks like an amazing day for a Labour Day Classic.
Funny you say that as today the jet totally missed it and went over about 3/4 through the anthem so it seemed a bit odd. Regardless it was still one of the more entertaining parts of the game today along with the Eskimo cheerleaders who are very athletic and acrobatic compared to the Outriders. A few riders and a few priders in the crowd to keep things interesting also Oh Henry
