The Blockbuster at Canyon Meadows Drive is still open but I never see any cars in the parking lot. I remember what a zoo those parking lots use to be on the weekends. I have seen people renting from those vending machines at Macs a few times now so that will be an option for those that don't know how to go the AppleTv, Netflix etc route.
If Zip.ca and Netflix just do TV and movies how does one rent a video game these days? I wonder if game stop or eb games or whatever it is called will get into the video game rental business.
I'm also thinking that no more video stores will hurt Bluray a lot...unless that format is only surviving from people purchasing the video in that format anyway.

that being said - we have just been renting from shaw on demand for a couple of years now - there were a little bit more money, but it was a convenience charge

I had one of those from Movie Gallery. They tried to do collections on me for $36 about a month before the store closed.
Goodbye Movie Gallery!

Heads up too. HMV in Signal Hill is down to it's final 10 days. Picked up the 2010 olympics on blu ray for $25, so i can watch it and read our Opening Ceremonies GT at the same time.

Yeah that list is pretty terrible. you can buy conan at HMV for $3.33 and no bandwidth! hehe
Can't believe NFLX is still trading at $238.

I'm going to miss the witty marquee sign the 17th avenue location always had.

I was reading that the canadian arm for Blockbuster was still profitable and they had $20 million in cash still. It's the just US part dragged the cdn side down with them.

Not that I would mind doing it myself, you really are confused if you think bypassing broadcast restrictions is legal.

American streaming selection isn't that great either, IMO. It is great for kid's shows, which I use it for a lot, but I can't recall watching anything on it for myself, despite having it on all my tvs and a few mobile devices. I suppose it is worth $8/month. Netflix streaming did little to kill blockbuster, netflix by mail was the big culprit.
I don't see any reason to love the Netflix stock either. Don't really see much potential to grow here. They are not going to ever offer unlimited new releases, so they'll have a tough time with growth once everyone who is going to have one has an $8/month account. They don't have much advantage over the tonnes of other players if they get into the new release PPV game. On each device, I already have like 5 choices for ppv content between Vudu, Amazon, Sony, Verizon, Cinema Now, and so on. Somebody explain where Netflix goes from here, as they everyone downgrades their $20/month dvd subscriptions to $8/month streaming plans.

It's suppose to go down, but i've been tracking it since it was at $90. Good thing i didn't outright short it and just putted it. $90 is about what the stock is worth.

I use Netflix streaming for most of my TV watching here in the States.
They have:
All of Mad Men
All of South Park, King of the Hill, Futurama
Parks and Rec Season 1 and 2
The Office US and UK
That's just off the top of my head for TV. There's also a huge catalog of movies. If it's a slightly older movie there's about a 50% chance it is on there. That, to go along with Red Box is all you really need.
Almost everyone of my friends has netflix down here.

I've been renting at least 1 movie a week for as long as I can remember. During the summer when there's no hockey I'll grab 3 old movies from Casablanca for $10. I prefer to spend my money locally and don't bother with Netflix or even the PPVs through Bell.
Since Birdog closed down I've made an effort to hit up Casablanca more often, I'm just hoping they survive.
