Has anyone been able to find Throwback Pepsi in the West-end of town lately?
Safeway Aspen and Westhills don't seem to have it anymore. Hopefully this isn't a sign that it's been disco'd in Canada...

Would love to see the people here who claim that it's easy to tell the difference do an actual taste test. And not the stupid Pepsi Challenge booths of the early 90's where you got a 50/50 shot of getting it right.
I'd guess that the majority would get it wrong if they had to pin point one shot of throwback versus 7 or 8 shots of regular.
It's all in your heads people!! There is no difference!

I loved those Pepsi challenge booths of the 90's. I'd walk up, taste both and tell them which was Pepsi and which was Coke. Pepsi has a sweeter taste than Coke.
I tried the throwback the other day and it tasted awful. There is a difference between the 2.

Throwback is amazing, it tastes like Mexican coke. If you can't taste the difference, you must have killed your tastebuds somehow. I feel bad for people who's pallet can't taste the difference, because it's literally as strong a difference as diet to non-diet.

^^When those booths were around, I was a young kid and would go just for the free pop, didn't care about challenge.

If that were the case, then I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between diet and non diet, but I definitely can with those. My taste buds are fine.
If there is a difference, and I dont think there is, but if there is, it's not night and day. But the only way to prove this is to have a REAL taste test and unfortunately that's impossible on an internet forum.
If this discussion was happening while bs'ing with my buddies, I would be out the door and at Safeway right now picking up the pop to prove them wrong.

Makes me wonder something; are those of us that can taste the difference normally Coke drinkers; but the Pepsi drinkers are the one who can't taste the difference?

I saw Pepsi Throwback the other day at Extreme Pita. I didn't even know what it was. Sounded tempting, but ultimately went with the diet stuff.
As an aside, Bertuzzied, two diet drinks that I find taste remarkably similar to their non-diet counterparts are Coke Zero and the diet root beer at A&W.

I actually have the same theory about wine.
I think the right way to do blind taste tests is to have 3 things to taste, two of them being the same and one different. So in addition to saying preference, one also has to say which are the same, and if one can't even identify the correct different item, then the preference will be invalid.

OK, that explains it. Unless you are shopping at Superstore Liquor store there isn't much of a price difference between the two; which tells me you may not have a taste preference. That's fine- I can't taste the difference between different wines. Different people have different tastes.
Keeping in mind that I don't think too many of us are drinking it for the taste. I'm drinking it for the lack of corn syrop. I only brought up the taste when somebody asked how it tasted.

I suppose I can see why some people can't tell the difference between Pepsi and Pepsi throwback. After all, marketers say that Coke Zero has real Coke taste.
As long as you aren't a marketer, you should be able to tell the difference between Pepsi and Pepsi Throwback.

I have my girlfriend buy Mexican coke from Costco everytime she's in the States because it's sweetened using cane sugar as well.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_Coke
I've had a few taste tests between regular canned coke from the supermarket and the Mexican Coke in the glass bottles (Obviously each poured in a glass prior to tasting) and the Mexican Coke is seriously way better and easily distinguished. The differences are in the acidity and as someone mentioned about Throwback Pepsi the lack of 'stickieness.' The flavour is much deeper too and my body feels less like garbage after drinking one.

In the past, I've noticed significant taste difference between Canadian Coke and Coke I've purchased in the US (like say driving into Montana or Washington).
How much extra does the real sugar cost per bottle over the high fructose corn syrup? a cent? Put the real stuff in, please.
Of course, saving 1 cent per bottle likely earns the companies millions of dollars in extra profit per year.

companies should at least give consumers the choice though, which is why this retro is a good thing. Pepsi Throwback has obviously been quite successful, so it's in their best interest to keep putting it out. and hopefully Coke follows suit to keep up. if Coke released a retro real sugar formula and released it in 6 or 12 pack bottles, then made them twice the price of a regular 12 pack, i'd still buy it. hell beer would still cost more
