Can I bitch about people not going the speed limit, or driving slowly in the passing lane, in this thread?

This is actually a legitimate thread. Seriously.
I run a lot, and it's an unspoken rule. Run on the same side that you drive on.
I also work in Austraalia a few months of the year, and it's the same thing. However, I always find myself on the wrong side of the pathway, and it really does cause a lot of problems.
I also work in China, and there are no rules whatsoever (kind of like driving). I only run VERY early in the morning when no one is around.
My point?
People need to walk like they drive, as well as drive like they walk. If you walk like an a hole, yell at people, and swerve around the pathway like an idiot, expect to get punched.
Conversely, if you drive like a tool, expect 4X4 to kick in your windows.

I always walk on the side closest to the traffic (especially if I'm walking with the opposite sex or a child) thats just a male protective thing
Plus with the fact that I have major vision issues I find that I can get a better feel if a car is turning.

Speaking of which:
http://www.calgaryherald.com/Pedestr...431/story.html
It appears the man was walking west in the crosswalk just north of the Whitehorn station when he was hit.
A yellow tarp covers his body on the other side of the intersection.
The investigation is in its early stages but it appears it could be an accident.
"At this point, it's not looking like the person purposely ran into the train," said duty inspector Michael Watterston.

I really, really don't understand how people can accidently be hit by a train. Its a f***ing train. If you look before crossing the tracks (like any sane person should be doing when crossing anything that could potentially completely devastate you) I don't see how someone can miss the train. Its a huge steel tube travelling at 80km/h. Get your heads out of your asses people.

I understand how it happens.
You are waiting to cross; as the lights are flashing for the train and you see the driver waiting to cross. The train crosses, and as it goes by you proceed across the tracks. However in the time it took the 3 cars to go past you, another train going the other way has started to come, and you don't see it coming because of the train right in front of you. For the same reason, you also don't hear it.
Yes, looking both ways solves this. But your brain knows it has already looked; and there was only one train. Same as when you are a pedestrian in England, you have to train your brain to look the opposite way you do here.

Yes but doesnt this kind of make my point? I don't know about most people, but I learned to look both ways when I was about 6. Anyone crossing train tracks without checking if a train is coming is completely moronic.

I guess you could say I felt slightly moronic the day I made my above discovery.

At least, you're still alive to tell the tale.
I have also been directly behind a vehicle trying to turn left with a driver that sorta did the same thing. Suffice it to say, the accident wasn't pretty. The vehicle was a mess but it seemed like everybody was okay at the end of the day other that some scratches and a big headache.

I actually made a similar mistake today. I approached the lights at 7th, and waiting , looked both ways and saw the one train coming at the lights facing west. I got there and I watched it go past and the light change so I could walk. I proceeded to walk without checking the eastbound direction a second time to see if a train had come and possibly heading my way.
