It was an armed unit attempting to arrest this guy on gun charges, the cops say they surrounded the mini cab (taxi) and the guy started shooting at them.
The UK police have guns but only specific officers for specific reasons.

Seriously though be very carefull about going to the Notting Hill Gate Carnival if you are over there on holiday, it is next weekend and there will be trouble.

From what Ive been reading its a similar situation to Vancouver; one small riot about the killing has turned into multiple riots.....just because its cool to riot, mob mentality.

I always side with police in this situation and feel sorry for them, especially those that weren't involved in the original incident. It's discrimination by uniform.
Imagine trying to make a living as a police officer and just because you have that uniform on, you're now getting caught in this with crazy goons throwing lit gascans at you!
