I hate cats, but they are nice looking creatures. I imagine they would be picked up fairly quick. Are they going to be kept together?
I really hope you find them a good home. It's breaking my heart reading about your situation.

Good Luck, I wish you all the best in finding a home for them. We have two cats we love and this is one situation we absolutely would absolutely dread.

We are hoping to keep them together, but we might have to split them up.

That really sucks. It really bugs me when somebody gets rid of a pet just because it isn't convenient or as cute as when they first got it. Now comes a person with a legitimate reason to have to give up their pets, and all the surrender places are full.
In the past 2 weeks I have been offerred 2 dogs because the decision to get them had less thought put in than where to go for dinner.
I hope you find a home for these guys.

Yeah, my sister works for Meow as well. I wonder how many she's brought home to her new place... She's always bugging me to adopt one.
Anyway, I was thinking I might be able to take one, been looking for some companionship around my place, but I probably wouldn't be able to take both. Let me think on it a bit, and PM your phone #.
How soon do you need to get rid of them. I'm assuming it's gotta be quick?

That's too bad. I am allergic to cats, but I do have one because I married into it and sometimes it is real suffering with the itchy eyes, wheezing, and sneezing. Doping up on antihistimines is no fun either. I know you probably feel bad for getting rid of the cats, but your child will be much better off.
I have gotten somewhat used to our cat, but I still get full blown symptoms around cats that I am not familiar with. I don't know if that is usual or maybe just psychosomatic.

I think that is somewhat normal FA. I am allergic to cats as well, but if I am always around the same cat I rarely have the same symptoms around that particular cat.

I am the same way, I have pet allergies as well. I grew up with dogs and we now have cats. I "got used" to the pets that lived in my house. From talking with the doctor, I still have the same allergic reaction but my body has given up with the symptoms.
There are some days I pop reactine like skittles.

For the record: AFAIK, the Cochrane humane society is what they call a low-kill shelter, not a no kill shelter. They do this because they consider themselves an open door shelter and will not refuse accepting any animals. In order to say this they have to consider euthanizing animals if they are dangerously low on space. From what I remember, last year no dogs were euthanized due to lack of space. I am not sure about the stats for cats.
Bob, Your cats are very beautiful and I really hope that you find a good home for them. The wife and I already have 2 cats or I wouldnt hesitate to take them into my home.
For anyone considering a new pet, don't forget about the Cochrane humane society. They have many great animals that come in (but not many small dogs). Go to www.cochranehumane.com and click on adopt, then dogs for adoption or any other of the animals to check them out. If any of the animals catch your eye, send me a pm and I can go over and check them out for you if you don't feel like driving all the way out here.

I'm going to talk to my fiance about this. She absolutely loves cats and I know she's wanted to have some cats since she moved in with me. The only reason we don't is because of my allergies, but I've been getting allergy shots for almost 2 years and I'm definitely getting better. I'd hate to these cats have no home to go to.

I wish I could help out, but as a current owner of two cats I can attest that the difference between owning one or two cats is minimal at best, if anything I found owning a second helped calm the first cat down and give him some company. I would suggest keeping these 2 critters together expecially if they have been companions together for some time.

My face is a bum!
|
I ended up with a cat from sort of similar circumstances. A coworker had found a mangy kitten in their yard with sores all over and took it in to nurse it back to health. Their dog spazzed and started destroying their house so they had to give it up.
I wasn't looking for a cat and was kind of nervous about having a pet and how much hassle that would make my frequent travel, but I called the SPCA out of curiosity and they said they were about to put him down, he was sedated and ready to get the needle. I said to get him out of there, I'd take him. The lady went nuts screaming "We saved him! To her coworkers". It was pretty awesome.
I showed up and met him that night, I didn't even know what he looked like, and he turned out to be the coolest cat ever. This weekend he was hanging out with my parents 1 year old retriever with no problems and last night he was hanging out with my sisters dog. He'll even hang out with other cats no problem.
The moral of the story, if any of you are thinking about it, do it. You won't regret it.

Yup, the guy making a gay joke in the rollerblade thread has a cat..
