I remember reading about him jumping out a while ago, from what I understand, there was some sort of ramp that came out of the back of a 727 (similar to what you see in Military planes when the paratroopers jump from the back of the plane). He wouldn't have hit the fuselage.
All the money probably got wrenched out of his hands as he was knocked senseless scraping along the side of the fuselage, leaving an unconscious bruise falling from the sky unable to deply the chute.
He jumped out of the rear-end of the airliner.
Some of the money was found in a forest - a small amount.

I remember walking to planes many times, and I love the part in the article where it mentions he had a cigarette, "which was allowed back then". lol i remember when the no smoking light would go out and the whole plane became a smoky haze.
Never got felt up back then either.

That's about right. The financial nerd in me was curious so I've determined that $200,000 in 1971 is the equivalent of $1,064,494.80 in 2010 dollars(2011 numbers, of course, are not yet available.) My financial calculator shows that to get $1 million out of $200,000 in '71 is equivalent to a rate of 4.105638018%. Carry on.

Crazy. I have a dollar bill from 1971 and the bank told me it's still worth a dollar.
It's an interesting story to say the least. Up until now everything I knew about the caper was from an Archie comic which had an eerily similar plot line involving a character named 'BB Cooperstock'.
I watched a History Channel doc on this a few months ago, and I gotta say, the case for Kenneth Christiansen being the guy was pretty damn compelling.

Discrepancies between Kenneth Christiansen and D.B. Cooper:
Kenneth has hazel eyes D.B. Cooper had brown eyes as reported by the witnesses.
Kenneth was 5’8” in height D.B. Cooper was reported as 5’10” to 6’ in height
Kenneth was 150 lbs D.B. Cooper was reported as around 175-180 lbs
Kenneth had a normal white complexion D.B. Cooper was reported as having dark or olive skin coloring
Really, the only similarities are they both smoked the same brand of cigarettes, drank bourbon, and had knowledge of planes and parachuting. And Kenneth does resemble the first composite sketch of D.B. Cooper, but not the second composite.

Yeah but eye witness reports are notoriously unreliable.

All of these are fairly subjective. I mean hazel vs. brown? Who among us would be able to tell the difference in hindsight? People can look taller/shorter depending on their shoes and age, so I don't think a couple of inches is really that big of a deal either. And weight wise, lots of people fluctuate 5-10 pounds.
Add to the fact that eyewitnesses aren't very reliabile, and that people's ability to guess height/weight/age is ball-park at best (you'd have to be pretty damn sharp to get all these very close), I don't think any of these numbers are out of the realm of possibility.
They should really make a REAL movie about the DB Cooper case. Yes I realize there was one from the 80's, but it wasn't very good. Remakes are okay if the original sucked.
Oh and don't forget the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, the Lindbergh Baby kidnapping, and even The Boy in the Box.... Man I miss Unsolved Mysteries.
Oh and the Teamsters killed Jimmy Hoffa... Hey shut up!

Todd Snider "D.B. Cooper". Great song by a good musician...if you ever get a chance to catch a Todd Snider show, don't pass it up...lots of fun. I agree with Todd, I hope they never find D.B. Cooper.
