It looks like the mold is seeping in through the nail holes from the baseboards. But if you want to get rid of it, it makes sense to bring in either a mold specialist or a respected general contractor to take a look.

Otherwise you should don a p95 mask and remove the afflicted drywall and parts of the carpet yourself to see how far the damage has spread. Don't expose yourself to mold spores just because you are manly. Seriously, either do it the right way or call in someone who will.
