Well even if someone is truthful I'm not sure this is at all accurate.

I agree, honestly, if you were to sit me down with a piece of paper and write a precise one paragraph definition of each word and an example of it used in a phrase, I would do a lot worse. I checked off the words as words that were familiar to me and I had a more than good idea about their meaning along with others I guessed based on them being from other languages. I did go back and double check though and after looking up the definition, if it didn't match with what I had thought it was, I unchecked the box.

Knowing the definition of a word and being able to define it through writing are two very different things. One of the funny things about language.

I think it would be a better test if they added a few made up words and catch the cheating. Then that result should be thrown out.

That is the way I did it too. If I couldn't expalin the definition I did not check it.

The average scores are BS

This test is not accurate.
Get a piece of paper and right down a definition of the word, then we could actually get a real number.

31,500

I had my Belgian (Flemish) internet friend do it and he scored 13,400. He's totally fluent from a text chat point of view.

39,300 being completely certain. There were a couple of words that I recognized but couldn't be 100% sure that I could give an accurate definition though.

i found it ironic that one of the words I had no idea on was clerisy.

Methinks a lot of people ignored this instruction:

Don't check boxes for words you know you've seen before, but whose meaning you aren't exactly sure of.

I agree

For a group that can't get their ( too's, to and their, there, who and whom) correct I find the numbers a little hard to swallow.

Well you don't need to know how to spell a word in order to use/understand it correctly, but with that said the idea that among normal, adult, native english speakers on this board there are some who know twice as many words as others is ridiculous.
