I second Shawarma Palace, but if you go at any mealtime or later than 1 am, the lines can be 20+ minutes.
There's at least 15 other Shawarma places within a 10-minute walk of SP, but it's the best in the city. Get the beef/chicken mixed plate, you get some of each, and it's actual beef shawarma not donair.
The one thing I really miss about Ottawa is the good Shawarma. You can't get anything nearly as tasty in Calgary (or cheap, for that matter).
Gatineau Park is great for hiking. There's dozens of trails that are less than 20 minutes from Ottawa.
St Hubert is also good for chicken - way better than Swiss Chalet - worth going if you're in the neighbourhood (there's one on St-Laurent at Industrial, and one on Maisonneuve near the Civilization museum.
Gatineau isn't as bad as people say. It's cleaned up a lot since I was a teenager wasting my life over there. Not worth visiting other than museums, SAQ self-serve wine vats, cheap beer, and the Park, though.
