I recommend a good waterproof jacket as well. I bought an awesome one from Columbia sportswear and water just beads off it. It has a hood with a brim on it. I can walk in the rain and all the water runs right off me.

I walk down the streets now and bark laughter at all the fools with their umbrellas while water bounces off my impenetrable cloak. I also gesture obscenely at them. I'm sure eventually I will be in a fight.

But I will be the one with two hands. I may get beaten up, but I will be the one not getting wet.

Men should not use umbrella's in public; unless they in business attire. I actually brought this topic up a few weeks ago to friends, and we pretty much agreed that is the only time umbrella's should be used.

Yeah, you guys that think golf umbrellas don't belong downtown can go to hell. It's the only umbrella I've ever had that doesn't break every time the wind starts up.

I tried doing the man thing and not use an umbrella, but my soaking leather briefcase left a leather stain on my shirt. Not cool.

All you need is a big drillbit hand, and you are set.

In Rome it rains for 4 months of the year, but you don't need to own an umbrella... Every time you exit a building there is a street vendor selling OOOMBRELLAA! It's like a coffee (cafe) habit. A couple of euro to go outside and you get an oombrellah.
The only annoying thing about this convenience are all the oombrellas that accumulate at the front door of your apartment over winter. Dozens of cheap, POS oombrellas.

Why?
Is there some sort of man code about "real men soak in the rain"?

I haven't used an umbrella in 15 years. Walking through the rain is not a big deal.
