If you can make it out to greenwich I highly recommend checking out the pub Greenwich Union, which serves local beers from Meantime Brewery

Camden Market is one of the most interesting markets I've been to in the world. Fascinating place.

Well the River Cafe is a Michelin-starred (and celebrity-frequented) Italian restaurant right on the Thames around the Fulham/Hammersmith border. Closest tube is Hammersmith.

As for Chinatown, I have been to some very good places but have no idea what any of them are called. Tiny little holes-in-the-wall but great food. Also, if she likes Indian food go to Brick Lane... or just go there to check it out even if she doesn't like Brick Lane.

Agree with most thing other posters have said. Lots of great countryside around London, I am particularly fond of Sussex especially for country-walking. On Sunday I walked from Battle (site of the Battle of Hastings) to Hastings itself. Lots of castles and manors down there, and Beachy Head and/or Seven Sisters are beautiful scenic cliffs on the channel worth checking out.

Personally, I am not fond of the Covent Garden pubs. Far too crowded! There are some great, historic and atmospheric pubs in Soho, Whitechapel and along the Thames in the city and east London.

You have to be really careful about Chinese restaurants on central London. Many of them have ridiculous prices for set menus and are nothing but tourist traps. And in all honesty the chinese food in the UK has a long way to go. I've not really had a great chinese meal here. The Indian on the other hand is superb. Just be careful with the curries - vindaloo in Canada is nice and pleasant, British vindaloo is like eating lava!
