Waterton is amazing! My family has had a shared Cabin there for many years. I spend at least 1 week there each summer. Crypt lake is a must-do in my opinion. Get the early ferry across so you can spend a bit more time at the lake before you have to head back down. (if you are a fly fisherman there is some huge cuttys in that lake)
This thread has gotten me excited for our August trip there this year.
Dont forget to catch a movie in the tattered old theatre while you are there too.

Question for anybody who knows- are there any towns in Montana close to Waterton? We are going there in a few weeks and if there is something right across the border I may make the trip to stock up on a few American groceries.
Looking at Google Maps it seems like Babb may be the closest; which might be a little too far for me to go.

Babb is a dump.
Continue South to St. Mary.

Prices will be a little high.

My family has a PO box in Babb which we use to ship american orders to, but as far as I know it has no grocery store.
It is about 30 minutes from Cardston.

Yeah, I guess what I was asking is if there was something north of Babb; as I know I'd have to go even further south to St. Mary to actually hit a grocery store.
By the time I do that I'm looking at a minimum of a 2 hour round trip; which may be more than I was looking to do.

From what I remember of Babb, it consists of a gas station, a general store, and not much else. But it has been a few years, so thing may have changed one way or another.
Here's what Street View sees: http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=babb,+m...,226.11,,0,9.1
Do a 360 there and you've pretty much seen it all. That being said, you could probably locate the general store's phone number and call ahead to see if they've got what you're looking for.
Edit: And, in response to your most recent post, I don't think that there's anything closer than Babb. I seem to recall Babb being the first place we came across once in Montana.

Definitely nothing north of Babb. If you're going to go, it's worth the extra few minutes to go down the road to St. Mary's.

If you are looking for a grocery store that actually has the selection you may be hoping for; St. Mary probably wont cut it either. The store there is pretty basic and you will be paying resort prices.
Gonna have to travel into Browning or Columbia Falls before you get a traditional US grocery store experience.
My Suggestion would be to make a day of it and do the "Going to the Sun" highway and head into Columbia Falls to do your shopping. Beautiful drive, well worth your time.

Yeah, the problem is my fiancee isn't a Canadian citizen; so this would be a solo trip. If I could go for an hour and pickup some things- no big deal. Once we get into 2+ hours; the gas I would save by not doing a day trip from Calgary to Great Falls another day isn't worth aggrivation.

Another example of why we need an un-thanks button.
Waterton is not the city, and its not Banff.(thankfully) But there is a tonne of things to do there if you are active and enjoy the outdoors. The scenery down there is amazing as well.
Labelling it as boring says more about you than the park itself IMO.

Spare me. Beautiful scenery and outdoor activities can be found pretty much anywhere in the mountains. Waterton lacks restaurants, nice hotels, a night life and a dozen other things that would make it worth going back to.

I went horseback riding in Waterton. It was great. Gorgeous views. Reasonably priced (for a city slicker anyway).

And they plan to keep it that way, thats why I'm going there this week end, to get away from all that city crap.

Thanking the person who called him out would be equivalent to an "Unthanks".

Pretty much. Or Banff. Or Invermere. Or Fernie. Or Whitefish.
Most vacation destinations have something fun to do after the day activities are done. After I rode the four-person bicycle around the block there wasn't much left to do.
I'm glad you guys like it, but most people don't, which is why it isn't busy, which goes back to why you like it I suppose.
