My ex falls victim to every scam going......... so I forwarded the link to her.
She checked it out, you have to pay $200 to become a distributor of some web based advertising or something. Sounds like one of those get rich opportunities where the only guy to get rich is the guy at the top. Pretty sure it's not Theo.

Well in all these pyramid schemes, if you have the financial resources to pay for all the materials and build a base like an ex-NHLer might have, and also the ability to get tons of dependants downline from you (again because you are popular as an ex-NHLer), you could make a lot of money.
This might work out for Theo better than that concrete finishing business. All the people under him get screwed though as goes for every pyramid scheme.

Problem is he has no financial resources. He was bumming cash of beer league players a couple years ago, and public records a couple years back, also showed he was completely tapped out.
When you see him involved in BS like this, it is no wonder why.

Wasn't his book a big success? Or maybe the proceeds went to paying off debt?

I don't think he got very much profit from that. Someone else may know better than me, but I heard his profit on each book sold was pretty small.

Headlined by the appearance of Calgary Flames legend Theo Fleury, the group of NHLers will include former NHL greats like Rick Vaive and Gary Leeman, current NHLers like Zac Dalpe and Tim Brent, and local NHL alumni.
|
Quote:
Since retiring from the game after a comeback attempt in the fall of 2009, Fleury has had the schedule that comes with having a No. 1 best-selling biography Playing with Fire.
“There have been lots of cool projects that have spun off the book,” Fleury said. “We just wrapped up a documentary that will hopefully be at the Toronto International Film Festival this fall, we wrote a Broadway play based on the book that will be debuted here in Calgary and we’ve been talking with some Hollywood folks about the movie as well.”
|
Written yesterday, doesn't sound as though he's doing too bad, but of course it could all be bluster.
Edit: "NHL greats like Rick Vaive and Gary Leeman" haha that is gold.

^ Ahhh.. the Brant News, my old hometown newspaper. If a Gretzky family member doesn't make it into a story, it's a bad day all around...

One of my friends used to be a bank teller at TD Square, and it was Theo's home branch. This was shortly after the book came out, but she said she dealt with him a few times and he was doing VERY well financially.

Not a slight against you or your friend, but that just pisses me off. It's like getting your photos developed at Black's back in the day by some total stranger. I don't like people knowing my business.

Not a slight against your friend, but her sharing his banking information with you is completely against the Privacy act, and could be very costly to both the Bank and herself.
Also, I call BS. His finances were thrust into the public domain 2 years ago, and he was broke, and couldn't keep up with his child support. "Very well off people" do not solicit MLM recruits on Kijiji using their D list celebrity status as a hook. Very well off people invent the scheme, and become the tip of the pyramid. Everyone else, is a broke ass desperate sucker, or just plain gullible.

Theo Fleury needs to put aside his ego, work an honest job and make money like a normal person. He needs to really settle down, and stop chasing his delusions of grandeur.

I'll get you next time Gadget!

I kinda want to send them $200 and see what happens.
I'll make the cheque payable to "NHL Great Gary Leeman". I just hope Theo doesn't get jealous.
Edit: Crap, I just read that article and realized Leeman is involved in something completely different. Something inside me still wants to fill out that cheque though. I wonder if Fleury would try to cash it? Have to get YourMother's friend to keep an eye out at the bank.

It would piss me off if someone shared private info like my financial situation but if it pisses you off that people know your business I don't know how you function in society.
Any number of people at your bank, credit card company, phone company, internet provider, insurance company, government, registry office etc know a lot about you. They have access to information that your immediate family, friends and even spouse may not know.

Yeah but if you read his post it sounds as though he doesn't like anyone knowing, not specifically illegally sharing confidential info with their friends.

I think I function pretty well, thanks. But I don't have to like the fact that my business could be accessible to Joe and Jane Random to gossip with their colleagues on their lunch break. And I can certainly try and minimize who knows what about me, even if on a superficial level.
