Denmark has more troops per capita than any nation fighting in Afghanistan and one of the highest casualty rates among allied forces. They spend the same % of GDP on Military as Canada, about 1.4%.

One of the dumber things I've heard lately. Pretty obvious that once the "annexing" gene gets out of the bottle, the entire planet is going to be ceding control of every half assed backwater to the United States and China.
Bravo Denmark. Way to live in the 21st century.

Canada has a larger professional military but they have a larger military trained population (every adult male).
They are also buying F-35s and have the same Leopard 2 tanks as us.
But we are better at hockey.

Turkey and Greece are NATO countries and I seem to recall that they had a little war over Cyprus not too long ago.
If it's settled with diplomats, then it will end with us compromising arctic sovereignty. Of course it will never turn into a shooting war, but a tough stance should be taken.

There "trained military" basically involves all people in the country between the age of 18 and 49. 4-12 months of manditory military service is not going to make you an especially great soldier. Canada could easily raise a similar force of non-career soldiers if fighting broke out.

They have conscription though, in time of national emergencies for all men who are fit until the age of 50.

Canada and Denmark have been squabbling over Hans Island for years now. If it came to military blows, it would have happened a while ago. Which it wouldn't because that's just ridiculous.

We have had 3 to 4 times more causalties then Denmark. We have had more wounded soldiers in Afganistan then Denmark has had soldiers all together.

Well as long as I don't see a Danish cartoon poking fun at hockey I don't care...

Just so you know
The reason Denmark is doing things like this is because they are desperate to show the Greenlander people that they are relevant to their needs, and that the Greenlanders will be in a better position with Denmark leading the way than going it alone.
Another thing to note is that while Denmark is tiny compared to the entirety of Canada, it is still similar in population to the three Prairie Provinces.
Also, when I was in Denmark last, the Military presence is quite significant. Nearly everywhere we went we noticed some aspect of the Army or Navy presence.
In addition, Denmark has 3 combat Icebreakers. Canada has had one they decommissioned in 1987, and only plans for more sometime in the future. If I am wrong about this, my bad.
Just so you know more about what's going on.

The key was there, was "casualty rates", not casualties.
i.e. number of casualties over total number of troops deployed.
