Actually, the project was riddled with Soviet spies. (See: Klaus Fuchs, Julius Rosenberg, Ted Hall, etc.)

There are always going to be doubters. People believed John Wilkes Booth was never actually killed and was living under an assumed identity for decades after the Lincoln assassination. When I was a kid in the early 80's, you would hear theories about Hitler still being alive. Although in Hitler's case, until the collapse of the Soviet Union, nobody from the western nations really knew what had become of him.

I'm sure if people had been looking for it, they would have found the evidence pointing towards some kind of government research pretty easily.
There are litterally milliions of people looking for evidence of the big conspiracy theories and noone can find anything concrete.

Not necessarily a conspiracy, if you define conspiracy as an agreement between 2 or more parties to commit a crime in a deceptive way.
...but it shows that it is possible to keep secrets within a large group of people.

My theory is the American government was behind the whole Roswell UFO incident, in the sense that they staged the entire event to have a few people truly believe it was a UFO crash, to see how the public would react when they the government claimed otherwise.
If the OP's theory is true, or if OBL was killed or died prior to what has been stated, it'd almost be impossible to prove to people with reasonable certainty, and they're well aware of this as per my theory.

My original point was, if you don't believe anything the government tells you, and the government tells you that Osama Bin Laden was the person behind 9/11; why do you believe the government that Osama is a person? What makes that information so special?
