Sega Genesis - Altered Beast, Forgotten Worlds, and Golden Axe were the three games that came with it. The latter two are still two of my favourite games.

My parents. They were very anti-video games and would not get us a system for my whole childhood. I was jealous of all my friends.

When I moved out at age 18 to go to University, I got an NES, SNES, Genesis, and 64. I also got all the games I missed out on growing up and now as a 28 year old with wife and baby, I'm still into video games.

The obvious ones were Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3. And how hooked was I???

My PC gaming background from around that same period was also quite formative, beginning with lengthy forays into the Kroz series, the Hugo series, the Commander Keen series, Major Stryker, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure, Scorched Earth, Lemmings, Chip's Challenge and others. This foundation led to later addictions to games like Raptor, Zone 66, Wacky Wheels, X-Com, The Incredible Machine, One Must Fall, Sim City, Transport Tycoon, WarCraft, Command and Conquer and many more.

The first game I ever played was Silpheed on DOS. Top down space shooter:

I loved everything about this game. The music was cool and it was challenging. After that my dad use to bring home shareware versions of the old side scrolling Duke Nukem games. Now that I think about it there were so many good computer games back then. Mechwarrior, Fury 3, Decent, Rogue Spear... First console I owned was a SNES and I loved Super Mario. Donkey Kong Country is still one of my favorite video games of all time.

First ones I remember playing were Popcorn and Smurfs for Atari, and Ice Hockey for the Tandy 1000.

What really got me hooked was the good 'ol Mario/Duck Hunt combo. There was no turning back after that.

That game was so fun (and easy) to mod. A buddy and I used to change all the character faces in Rogue Spear in high school. We tossed our own pictures in there, and went on to anything else we could think of. I think the best was seeing a bunch of Sesame Street character faces behind the riot gear shooting terrorists.

The one that got me hooked was when I had a Commodore 64 and we got Ultimate Wizard. Not much to the game but it was fun. The best part was that you could create your own level. My friends and I would take turns trying to make a level that the others couldn't beat. So much fun.

After that it was Super Mario Bros. on the NES.

Kid Icarus for the NES. My older brother and I would play that game until our eyes went square. We had a babysitter come over on occasion, and he would help us advance. Man, that game was unforgiving.

Paddle games on the Vic20.

Specifically, I remember playing the Sky is Falling and Warlords (although I think Warlords maybe have been on the Atari).

I played a lot of Atari but I don't know if it got me hooked. Moon Patrol, Combat, Berserk, Wizard of Wor, Frogger, and Warlords were in rotation.

I think Coleco got me into games more with Chuck Norris and Artillery Duel.

SMB for Christmas in 88(?) was the beginning of the big addiction. I rented every game I could for my 12" B&W TV. Imagine my joy when emulators came out and this time around I had a 50" plasma.

Also, Godzilla, Rambo and Top Gun for NES.

All games that I spent a lot of time in the first couple of levels because they were either too confusing or too difficult to get past.

Mario, Robocop, Metroid, Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden I for NES were the games that got me hooked.

Later on, Doom got me hooked to videogames even further and I'm not going to mention Goldeneye.

Asteroids on the 2600. Somebody mentioned ET as the worst 2600 game but I nominate Indiana Jones. Remember trying to parachute into that little stupid hole in the wall to get into the THieves Den? You almost always died and even if you made it you landed inside and your parachute had you paralized and before you could do anything about it some thief would kill you. Horrible game!
