It irks me that a tasy dish like Pho (which is considered breakfast food in Vietnam BTW at about $25 cents a bowl) has gone from bargain food status at $6.50 a bowl to $9.50 a bowl wtih vastly smaller portions in the last 2 years.
Yes, I know things get more expensive here with Labour and overhead, but I've certainly cut back on my Pho intake. At $9.50 a bowl I have a lot of options.
Just have to find places that dont charge $9.50 a bowl. Out of the 10 Viet places I frequent only 1 or 2 have prices like that. With some research you would never have to pay that much.. where in the city do you live?
Meh. I had the vermicelli noodle thing at Pho Taurus on the weekend. Didn't try the pho. I've had better but I've also had much worse. The portions were gigantic and the price was really reasonable. I'd give it a solid B.
Clearly, it's a matter of personal taste to a great degree. Like anything else on this board, one person will say something is super awesome while another will say it's worse than a night with fotze's mom. To each their own.
If you think Pho Taurus isnt awful you need to educate yourself on viet food. The place has the worst Pork and Spring Rolls in the city and the only reason they get any customers at all is because the next closest option is 64th Ave. I would rather eat at the crappy A&W then step foot into Taurus again. There food is bland and has no flavor at all... then even water down there fish-oil sauce u get when u get Vermicelli.

Taste? There is no flavor at Tauros, just watered down sauce and Vermicelli. There isnt a single thing in there Vermicelli that is good. Every Fan of Viet food knows what im saying when you can say "This place has good Spring Rolls" or "But this place has better Charboiled Pork". Tauros has NOTHING in there vermicelli that can compare to other Resteraunts. Infact you will use Tauros as the Red headed stepchild, "These Spring rolls arnt as good as .... but at least its not Tauros." There Pho is greasy and there bean sprouts and limes are wilted or browning. Gordon Ramsey would fly off the handle if he had to eat there.
Agreed about Pho da bo, im suprized Noodleworld 2 doors down hasnt gone out of business. They have been competing for the last 15 years, maybe there owned by the same people. The vermicelli isnt the greatest at Pho da bo, so maybe thats why Noodleworld is still around. Mei Kong down 17th Ave close to Deerfoot has really good Charboiled Pork in there vermicelli.
Ya know if this forum had a Food Forum id totally make a thread listing all the viet resteraunts everyone has been too with there top 10 ratings for each and narrow down the top 5 in the city. It would be pretty epic, im interested to see how my favorite places stack up against places other people have found. Too bad this forum would troll the thread to death for having too many food threads.

Do me and all the other honkies a favor: make me a list of places to go in the city and tell me what to order. I will compare your recommended joints with the places I've been and see just how crappy my taste really is.
Try to remember we are not all 15 year old girls, what does 'bc' mean?
"bc" could refer to the western-most province of Canada, called British Columbia. However this context does not seem to fit the description bc it's not in the proper context.
anyone know a good viet sub place in the NE? Vietsub, Saigon Star and the Place at the uofc are all in the NW
hardly in the northeast , basil took over thai tai subs which was decent but i like to go downtown for subs like banh mi thi thi across from the harry has building
