It does happen. I guided a fishing boat for a couple years off the west coast of the Island and saw plenty of killer whales. I can't comment as a surfer though, but there are definitely killer whales in the area.

Yea, it probably doesnt happen often, I was just suprised two people on the previous page said it wasnt true..probably because they had just never experienced it before.

I meant for surfers. I work on fishing vessels all the time too, mainly for sardine and herring.

The guy is from LA so I wouldn't be surprised if he would of got out for a great white shark too.

LA is Florida speak for Lower Alabama

I've gone whale watching in NFLD, and I have to say it is one of my top 5 life experiences. We were sitting in a zodiac in a bay, and humpback whales were feeding all around us, and suddenly one surfaces, and looks right at us, literally 3 feet off of the side of our boat. The whale could have easily flipped us, but was just very curious and checking us out to see what we were about. Seeing them breeching (sp?) was amazing as well, just an all around incredible experience.

I will try to find a few of the photos I took and upload them.

Same expeirience in prince rupert. Didnt want to pay the $200 to do it. Glad i did. Next time i would like to get in the water with them however.
