If you get it legitimately through a psychiatrist, do not take the daily dosage. Just use it for studying now and again. Prolonged (like months of use) use will slowly start screwing with your brain chemistry.
I know this is a generalization, I know there are kids with REAL ADD that these drugs do wonders for. Basically, from what I gather, dexedrine/etc allows ADD kids to focus, almost calms them down. For normal people it speeds them up, but also allows them to focus.

This is by far the best advice I've ever heard.
Seriously, if you go the effort to go see a trained professional who is well versed in the use and side effects of a drug, who prescribes a daily dossage, f*** that guy, listen to some dude on the internet who thinks you should just use it to cram for midterms.
