Her very public support definitely lent an air of legitimacy to his bizarre transformation. Basically, her message was the person, not their appearance, is what matters.

On the other hand, he was a fruit loop who seemed to like little boys so maybe her judgement wasn't 100%.

When people talk about the Tayler/Burton on screen dynamic they tend to forget about the Taming of the Shrew which was made in 67 and showed some fantastic comediatic timing by both actors.
