That was really freaky. I'm living a few prefectures over from the epicenter. Was hiding under the table with the kids for a few mins while the world shook. Now we're stuck in our building as we are pretty close to the ocean and a big tsunami is coming. First big quake experience in my life and have to say its pretty scary stuff.

Some of those crazy dudes driving were stuck there when the quake happened and are probably scrambling to get to their families now, or escape a tsunami. Also the trains will probably be shut down overnight, so that makes the roads that much crazier. No reports of any fatalities on the news yet, but I hope everyone is ok.

Oh my, there's another wave coming in... so is the first wave always the worst one? Anyone know how tsunamis work?

Hopefully the damage is minimal as can be in a situation like this. The video footage is incredible, wow.

We're on the big island of Hawaii, Kona side, ànd there is a tsunami watch right now. No evacuation order yet. We're on the fifth floor so pretty safe but its only a ten minute walk up the hill to get out of the danger zone. Or a short drive.

Its been a great day in Hawaii!!!!

This is one of those very rare times I wish I had TV.

Hope those warning systems have paid off.

The later tsunami's are usually worse, they tend to pick up speed, size and power as they come. Still having aftershocks here now.

Makes me scared for Vancouver when that rumored 'big one' hits.
