Can't speak for Phuket because I flew into Krabi but Phi Phi is awesome. I was on Phi Phi 2 months before the tsunami and I really want to go back. It's such a laid back atmosphere. Did a jungle Hike one day and holy hell i've never experienced humidity like that in my life! We also went on a snorkel excursion. I've been snorkeling all over Hawaii, Mexico, Virgin Islands, etc and I would Say that Thailand was the best snorkeling I've ever done.

Last recommondation is if the water starts receding head for higher ground!

A little something I wrote about my experience...don't laugh too hard

BTW get a Thai massage if you want the hell beat out of you

We are also going to Thailand in January. We're planning to hit up Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi. I'm usually a compulsive planner and like to make sure everything is booked ahead of time - but my husband, and others, have said that we will get a better deal by just showing up off the ferry and negotiating a price.

My concern is that we will be there during peak season (right after New Years) and I don't want to end up forking out $100+ for a night because there were no cheaper bungalows or guesthouses left.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I just booked flights for Thailand as well, over Christmas! Few days in Bangkok, then does to Phukat for the rest some diving and climbing. Super stoked.

Phaunthier, will you do your diving through the hotel? Or will you book elsewhere?
