Hrm, a few tips for buying out of country:
- Have an idea of the car you want to buy and get to know some of the common problems, and things to look for when buying used.
- Get a carfax (worked well for me when buying in the US)
- [If you're buying at an auction, this point may not be relevant] but be mechanically inclined. If you're not, bring along someone who is. I brought my pops along and put the car up on a lift before I bought mine.
Do you have an auction in mind? I went through a private sale when I got mine, (but also looked at dealers) for the sole purpose of being able to take it for a test drive, and have some time to research, etc.
Re-reading that post, I guess none of those points are really for buying a car out of the US specifically.
