When I was a kid we went to Provincials in Claresholm, and there was a bowling alley near the hotel we were staying in. The coaches wouldn't let us bowl due to possible injury, so we all stuck near the arcade machines. There was a Terminator shooter that sucked up a ton of our quarters. Over half the team just kept rotating through the game whenever one of us had to go get more quarters.
Never played an arcade game more than that one. Probably because we didn't have a decent arcade hall where I grew up.

Wow, finally a top 50 list I can somewhat get behind. Although, like mentioned already, there are some very notables missing in it, and some that are not deserving. The list is a nice mix of new and old.
I would put Street Fighter Champion Edition or Hyperfighting over World Warrior any day. Yeah, World Warrior kicked off the craze, but is so broken it doesn't deserve to be in the top 50.
I'd put Afterburner higher and drop Dragon's Lair down about 25 places. And a huge kudos for mentioning Wizard of Wor. I am astounded people remember that game, and also dumbfounded that Asteroids didn't make the top five, nevermind being excluded from the list.
Not much argument for the top three. Ms. Pac Man, Pac Man, and DK are classics.

I don't see a top down shooter that required quarters every 30-45 seconds...like 1942.
Galaga is on that list. But if you needed to put in a quarter every 30-45 seconds, you suck. And really, all those games required was a bit of practice.

I have no problem with old people making these lists, so long as they've played the games and lived through most of the late great arcade era. Better than some snot nosed kid who's arcade virginity was popped playing Dance Dance Revolution. (Which should also get a mention based on just how popular it was.) And from some of the more modern games on the list, like Golden Tee Golf, I think they mostly got it right.

Galaga was more in the space invaders genre though. 1942 spawned legions of similar top-down shooter with crazy power ups (maybe 1942 wasn't even the first in this genre, its just the one I remember best)
Man, would like to see a list like this broken down by eras. Too many picks wasted on early arcade games. I get that they were amazing in their time, but they don't really represent arcades to me. How do you leave off Samurai Shodown? Or Magic Sword?
I think Dance Dance Revolution should be on that list. For a little while, it was all the rage in arcades, and one of the only games delaying the death of arcades.
