 The cop showed up. I was checking the name badges on all of the cops waiting, and none matched the one on my ticket - until 9:28 (2 minutes before court starts) and my guy shows up. Pretty mean looking motorcycle cop with a shaved head.

The prosecutor then called me up to let me know that the cop showed up - and offered me a choice - I could take a deal or go to trial. So, I took the deal which was about 30% off the ticket and 2 demerits unstead of 3. I couldn't get him to budge from that. I didn't really feel like I had a choice, so I took the deal and got the heck out of there. Not a fun time - but what can you do? Gotta keep a closer eye on the spedometer from now on.

Did you learn anything from the whole affair? Not to speed perhaps?

Should have plead guilty and got no demerits at least. Who cares about the fine... demerits kill you in the long run.

I did plead guilty. The prosecutor wouldn't drop all of the demerits - only 1 of the 3. And believe me - I tried. I even offered to pay the full fine if they would drop all of the demerits.

I was caught speeding on 14th going '90' in the 70 zone after the police station going down the hill. (North)

I didn't go to court per se but I went to the building across from the downtown library and waited around for about 2 hours.
The ticket was $120 with 3 demerits attached.

The guy offered me either to pay ~$85 and keep 2 demerits or pay the whole $120 and get no demerits.

Maybe it just depends on that person's mood?

One a thing a co-worker of mine did.

Got his ticket, decided to fight it and then somehow managed to arrange a court date on the RCMP officer's day off. Which would mean they would have to pay him overtime to come to court...I guess if that happens it will end up costing more than it is worth so more often than not they just go unchallenged.
This happened in Northern ALberta where the police work sched is probably a little easier to get ahold of though.

The last ticket I fought I had received late one Wednesday night. So when I scheduled the court date, I made sure it was early on a Thursday morning with the hopes that the officer had worked late the night before. Sure enough, the officer did not show up and I got off scot free.
