The driving code clearly states that you should never exceed the speed limit to pass someone. If you need to speed to pass than you shouldn't pass.. According to the driving code.
Not my opinion, just telling you how it is.
Interesting. Did you use two periods for a reason.. ?
I've been in a 1.5L '95 Dodge Colt doing 220. The vibrations were shaking it to pieces. I should have padded her feet, but they didn't make Nikes in her size.
Thumbs up for the Ghostbusters reference.
I did 220km/h in my 1989 Dodge Daytona back in the day. 240km/h is fast, but honestly, probably 1/4 or more teenage boys drive this fast just to see how fast they can go.
I've been in cars going pretty quick on that road. Cab drivers regularly go 160+ on the elevated portions when going back to the west island. Going that fast through the tunnel is ####ing crazy though. It's essentially a tunnel that goes all the way under all of downtown.

A buddy back in HS had a 1968 Dodge Superbee with the 383 magnium engine. It was also the car I learned to drive on. Anyway we found this quite deserted country road and had her up to 220 and then the engine blew. It was an expensive test you might say
My friend's Cobalt SS easily gets above 250 without modification, and we've been north of that many times. A freaking Cobalt goes that fast these days...
I'm surprised no one mentioned this earlier. It wasn't even his own vehicle, he did the Ferris Buelers day off and took it out for a rather speedy joy ride.
Drive it like you stole it, or better, drive it like someone trusted you to park it.

The accuracy of the speedo tends to diminish after about 200 km/h just for reference.

Every society has implied ways of implementing laws that rely on common sense. Speed limits are one of these. The literal law is never speed. The implied law is 10 over except when passing go as fast as safely possible.
It works better like this because changing the literal law would only change the implied law.
I'm not a car guy, but I don't think maxing out cars at 120 is a good idea. Imagine being stuck behind a truck going 70 on highway 22 in a car that maxes out at 120 or worse a convoy. It's much safer to just be able to gun it around the truck and get back over as fast as possible.

my 04 acura tsx topped out at 227km/h with a 4 banger in it. drag maxxed the vehicle out.
I could see one of the new high horsepower SUVs being able to reach 240 easily. Also had a 2000 Merc. ML430 drive from sunshine to calgary at 230 most of the way. The newer cars are only getting faster or more efficient with time so it is possible.
The frenchie with the ticket was probably on a wide open road, late at night and wanted to test his top end. He was solo and sober, no harm done except for if the coppers are around.
I have gone over 240 in a Lincoln LS V8 about 6-8 years back when driving from Edmonton to Calgary on highway 2...
The car had PLENTY after the speedo maxed at 240, so I don't know how fast I was going, but I got scared because it started to shake too much to control.
The fastest I've gotten in my car is 175-180 due to the governor, but I took the old REDVAN up to 160 one time before my female passengers shat a brick.
I feel everyone should do it once, but if you're not at least half safe about it, then be prepared to die...
Does the car have speed rated tires ? This should be a serious consideration before you do a speed test ! Tires do come apart from speed.
My car is governed @ 192 kph, (120 mph) the thing was pulling so hard at 192, it felt like the brakes were suddenly applied
My truck ? I don't trust the 35" tires enough to find out. Good Yokohama tires, but still...
Fun fact:
With the tall gear ratios my truck has, 120 kph=1750rpm and red line @ 5600 rpm, it would have to do about 385kph to red line the engine.
How about proper brakes....
I can guarantee that 90% of the people on here who have gone over 200km/h are driving on stock brakes thinking they will help... There is a reason why cars are limited. Its not due to the fact that they cant go 240, its that to go 240 safely you need higher performance tires and brakes and all sorts of things.
Only time i have ever gone over 160 is on the track, i dont trust other drivers around me if im driving fast.
driving that fast is not cool. it doesnt make you cool.
anything over 80 in the city and 110 on a highway is reckless and frankly i dont think you should have the priviledge of sharing the street with me, my family and the rest of society who would like to get from point A to point B without being paralyzed or killed so you can bend it like teddy peckman.

110 feels so slow, once you come back down from 300+.

So if I am driving 1-2km/h over the speed limit on the way to Banff I am driving "reckless"?
Good call.
