Disappointing result for Canada. I don't want to see them get relegated, but I guess we will see.

Another Roddick fan. It's too bad that he's always been less than his talent would suggest.

At least he has the one major.

He just played in an era with maybe two of the best players ever.

Canadians this week

Milos Raonic is in San Jose for the SAP Open playing at the HP Pavillion.

I don't see any other Canadians (male or female) in anything else. The tournaments have very small fields this week.

I just had a glance and there are some decent players at the SAP Open, including a number looking to re-start things like Karlovic, Blake, and Hewitt. Del Potro is also in action, right in the middle of the pack, which could be great for him after coming back from injuries. Raonic has a decent draw. The sky is the limit with this kid!

Raonic is in action right now at the SAP Open and he's out to a quick 3-0. I'm watching the steam on the tournament's website: http://www.sapopentennis.com/. I didn't catch the speed, but he's already clocked in some serves at ridiculous numbers!

Also, here's a link to Milos' blog:

He got to meet his hero. I bet you can guess who

EASY win for Raonic 6-3, 6-4

20 aces for Raonic...wow, although San Jose usually has a pretty fast carpet. Nice to have another top 50 player (and the #4 seed) as a scalp.
There are some pretty good players in the Challenger level tournaments. A couple Canadians won the doubles last week on Oz, and are involved in another tournament this week Down Under.

That Blake vs Raonic should be fun - Blake is a good player though it's crazy given his peak at #4 that Raonic is now 50 spots above him. Too bad we don't have that tennis channel in Canada or I'd tivo it.

Tennis channel is pretty crappy, it shows nothing until semifinals, sometimes quarterfinals. So if Raonic makes the semis, anyone with tennis channel will see him.

Raonic against Blake goes at around 4pm MT tomorrow.

Raonic will never play..it's really backed up at the Shark Tank. The first two matches took over 4 hours to play. There is still a singles match and a doubles match before Raonic-Blake. All this before the night session at 7pm PT.

Finally Looking forward to it. I've always liked Blake. I enjoyed his autobiography. I appreciate the adversity he's faced throughout his career and I've wondered if 2011 would be his swan song. Of course, Raonic gets my support tonight

Raonic has broken Blake twice already, it's very easy so far.

Blake is done, has no game left.

Looks like Raonic knows there's a Flames game on and wants us to watch most of it. He looks great! But as you said, Blake looks ... well ... just plain bad.

It's over! WOO! Raonic wins 6-2, 7-6. He tightened up in the 2nd set, served for the match and got broken but then rebounded in the tiebreak.

He plays in the quarters on Friday against a similar rising star type player. Berenkis of Lithuania.

SAN JOSE, CA, USA - Milos Raonic served up his second ATP World Tour quarterfinal spot on Wednesday, reaching the final eight at the SAP Open with a 62 76(4) win over James Blake. He wrote the latest instalment of his blog shortly afterwards...

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Hi again everyone,

I was more excited than usual after my win over James today. I served for the match at 62, 54 and he broke me back, then I won it in the tie-break. But to overcome what happened in that game, that good game he played, was really satisfying. He has a lot of experience and I'm happy I was able to keep my composure and keep my game together.

I'm playing well, I'm playing confidently. Everything's coming together. I believe a lot in myself, my team, the work I've done... I don't feel there's much that can get in the way of this, and as far as injuries and anything else that can, I'll work hard to prevent it.

My next opponent is Richard Berankis. I think I played him in Under 14s. I know I played him once, I'm not sure if it was Under 14s or Under 12s. We're the exact same age and we grew up together. I've seen a lot of him, he's seen a lot of me and we get along. We've hit a few times the last few weeks. I look forward to that match.

On another subject, there have been a lot of nicknames going around for me. Everything so far has to do with war, like missile. I think Maple Leaf Missile is nice, but let's just stick with Milos until I make up my mind! Actually there has been one I've picked up, Avatar, because of the long legs. That one I don't mind either!

When you're on the road for so long, keeping in touch with everyone back home is important. Skype is a big thing or me, as is BlackBerry Messenger. My sister is in Toronto and I'm Skyping her every day, seeing my niece and nephew, who were just born last April. That's something I don't want to miss out on. I'm seeing them, my mom, my friends, everybody. I'm trying to keep in touch as much as I can.

I'll be practicing tomorrow and I'll talk to you all again.

Whoever does the intro desk on the Aussie open coverage was trying to pump that nickname up, can't remember who.
